
Don’t you find it amazing that something as small as a brain is smart enough to control a whole body? Well, I guess the same principle can be applied to the world of robots – imagine using the humble iPhone to control a really huge robot – say, an industrial-size model? That’s what the team at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing in Berlin, Germany came up with in their spare time.
The robot being controlled is not one of those cute models that you play on your desk or across the floor – it is huge enough to perform large scale automated manufacturing and assembly. What you see in the video after the jump would be the KUKA KR6, a low payload industrial robot that has a robotic arm that is used to weld arcs, solder and pack amongst other things.
