Apple Experience Center in Peking University not well received

Apple has their fair share of fans and detractors, although at the Peking University, China, it’s starting to look like Apple will be facing more detractors than fans with their latest installation of an Apple Experience Center.

If you head on down to the malls or Apple retail stores, especially on weekends, you’ll realize that there is no shortage of people playing around with various Apple products, ranging from the iPad to the iMac, iPod Nano to the MacBook Air. It’s undoubtedly a great way to sell products, but it looks like eagerness to bring that experience over to the Peking University is not being met well by the students.

According to the reports, the new Apple Experience Center occupies a third floor, which is the former study area in the school’s main library. While this is nothing new for American universities where consumerism meets academics, this is apparently not a favorable move according to some students.

“It’s totally against the spirit and environment of the library,” said a student surnamed Chen, according to the People’s Daily. “Apple should have discounts or give-back activities if they want self-promotion, other than introducing this commercial thing into a sacred place like this.”

Any students from Peking University that would like to share their thoughts about this? Students of other universities from around the world, would this be a move you would gladly embrace?

Visit the Port Eliot Festival to Experience Literature, Music and Laughter

The Port Eliot Festival may not be one of the most high-profile summer arts events, but its mix of literature, music and alternative entertainment ensures it is one of the most fascinating.

People staying in self-catering cottages in Cornwall will be able to experience the 2010 festival, which is staged on the magnificent country estate belonging to the Earl of St Germans, from July 23rd-25th.

If you are a bit of a bookworm, you are sure to find plenty to interest you at the Port Eliot Festival.

Hari Kunzru, Geoff Dyer, Ferdinand Mount and Margaret Drabble are among the novelists who will be reading from their latest books, while sci-fi author Matthew De Abaitua will be holding a tour of the site and giving lessons in how not to write poetry.

Non-fiction authors booked to give readings or take part in discussions include TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, pop star turned acerbic writer Luke Haines and ceramic artist Edmund de Waal.

And make sure you don't miss poet Ross Sutherland performing his new solo comedy show The Three Stigmata of Pacman, which promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend.

You may prefer to use your holiday cottage in Cornwall as a base from which to check out some of the musical talent at the festival.

There are no multimillion-selling stadium rock-style headline acts at Port Eliot, but you will be able to watch a host of up-and-coming or unusual acts play.

The Leisure Society, Fionn Regan, The Loose Salute and Danny And The Champions Of The World will all be showcasing tracks from their latest albums.

If you prefer a touch of performance art with your music, you may want to see what delightfully eccentric acts such as Antony Elvin, The Book Club Boutique Band, Princes In The Tower and Mik Artistik's Ego Trip have to offer.

You may even find you learn something - even if it is something you didn't really need to know - if you take a trip to the festival while staying in cottages in Cornwall.

The festival has an Idler's Academy, which is scheduled to feature former KLF star Bill Drummond giving lessons in how to build a bed and journalist Toby Young providing advice on how to start a school, while you will also be able to pick up some tips on clothes and gardening at the fashion and flower show exhibits.

If you're looking for a holiday cottage in Cornwall then look no further than Corncott and their fantastic range of cottages in Cornwall. Corncott is the place to find perfect self-catering cottages in Cornwall.

English Majors Experience Various Works Of Literature

English majors are subject to take a variety of advanced literature courses. These higher-level courses delve into great detail about how to read various forms of writing, including fiction, poetry, essay, and drama. Writing types are broken down and explored on several different levels, instilling a great appreciation of the world of literature. With drama (also known as a play) students learn about several different components, one of which is the Elements of Drama.

The elements of drama include the plot, character, dialogue, staging, and theme. As students explore each element on an individual level, the analysis helps to see how it fits in conjunction with the other elements. Each analysis is followed by an act of synthesis, in which all of the elements are put into a relationship with one another.

The plot is the structure of a play's action. It encompasses what happens in a play, the order of the incidents, and their arrangement and form. A traditional plot structure consists of an exposition - background information for the plot development, rising action - a set of conflicts and crises, climax - the play's most decisive crisis, and falling action - a follow-up that generates resolution. The ultimate objective of the plot is to control the audience's expectations about what is happening in the drama.

Some consider the plot to be the skeletal framework of a play, and the character is its vital center. Characters are what bring the play to life. They are so important because people respond and relate to them, even though they are fictional human beings. Consequently, the human qualities of characters are arguably their most engaging features. In relation to the framework, it is in conflict that characters reveal themselves and advance the plot.

Dialogue has three major functions: (1) to advance the plot; (2) to establish setting; (3) to reveal character. However, the most important and consistent objective of dialogue is to reveal the character. Dialogue is the catalyst that makes things happen, and as such, it becomes a form of action as well.

By staging, students learn about the visual details, including the actors on the stage, background scenery, props, costumes, etc. and how they increase their understanding of the play. Props like costumes and any physical objects that appear in a play can be an important dramatic symbol. The sounds and sights are also stage elements that increase our aural and visual imagination. Staging enhances the student's appreciation of the literary composition and the dramatist's craftsmanship.

The final Element of Drama is the theme. The theme refers to the play's meaning or central idea. One of the most effective ways to determine the theme(s), of a play is by interpreting dialogue between the characters. Dialogue frequently represents conflicting ideas and varying viewpoints. Because there are different views, there can also be different themes. Reading dialogue can be instrumental in assessing main ideas and purpose to surmise the theme(s) of a play.

Literature courses, among other things, offer instruction that help English students gain a solid understanding the various writing forms and their components, which is crucial to the development of dramatic analytical proficiencies. Discovering and exploring the various elements of writing, like the Elements of Drama, can augment the student's critical skills and enhance his or her appreciation of the craft. Whether a student is taking online classes or not, an English degree program will give him or her a solid foundation in literary analysis.

How Audiobooks Can Change The Way You Experience Literature

Audiobooks are CDs or even MP3s that permit users to listen to spoken word recordings of their favorite novels. At one time these were most commonly known as books on tape. It just does not make sense to call them that now that they can be played from an iPod or through a disc player. Though this type of media has always been popular in academic settings for people of all ages, it is now becoming a common type of "reading" for all variety of literature and all settings.

Audio books come in a few different formats. You can select the unabridged version or the abridged version. When a book is abridged it has been made shorter to make it a briefer read, and audio books are like this to shorten the recordings. Not everyone loves the abridged versions since they enjoy the story in its original glory and strength. Some say that the abridged story isn't missing much at all in terms of presenting all the major aspects of the story in proper detail.

Unabridged audiobooks are definitely the best choice among true fans of literature. These are full readings of the original text. Nothing is taken out of an unabridged version, so there is no argument about the necessity of removing details from a novel. The only real downside to unabridged audio books is the occasional extra recording costs. However, if you want to listen to the most accurate depiction of a book that is available in spoken word, then this is the route you need to take. Which version you are getting is generally displayed clearly on the front of the package.

Millions of literature lovers and casual readers alike have turned to this form of novel. It is especially popular with those who travel a lot as well as readers who may have weak eyes from age. Nearly all popular books are marketed this way now. Libraries, bookstores, music shops, as well as other retailers offer audio versions of your favorites. The newest way to get your audio books is by downloading them from the internet. Now you can upload a spoken word text directly to your MP3 player for easy access, no matter where you are.

Audiobooks are a fantastic option for busy readers who want access to their favorite pastime without having to sacrifice other parts of their life. Listen to your favorite tales from anywhere you are at anytime you choose. No matter how you decide to listen, everyone loves to be read to.

Many available mp3s to download at audiobooks or you may also visit: music downloads.
