Voice recognition apps are cool and they can be incredibly handy too. Google has just such a tool available, which Android users should already be familiar with – Voice Actions. Unfortunately it has always been catered to the American market, which means that for those who don’t speak the English language as their first language will have some difficulty when using the feature.

The good news is that Google will be updating the Android Voice Search tool to include support for other languages such as British English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, so this should be good news for those who speak another language apart from English, or for those who speak English with a heavy accent.

The tool’s functions should not have changed much from before, but for those new to Voice Actions, you can use it by simply saying one of the following commands, which can now be spoken in any of the added languages we mentioned above:

send text to [contact] [message]call [business]call [contact]go to [website]navigate to [location/business name]directions to [location/business name]map of [location]

Good news for folks who don’t use English as a main language – Twitter has announced on its blog that it now supports an additional five new languages, bringing up the total number of supported languages to 17. Twitter is now available in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Hindi, Tagalog and Malay. With last week’s announcement of having over 100 million active users on the service, the availability of these new languages will definitely help the service reach out to even more users.

Also, what’s interesting about Twitter’s language options, is Twitter’s involvement (or lack thereof) in it. Twitter’s translation is all done by a community of translators who both translate and moderate Twitter.com, its support pages, Twitter apps and more.
