In this second part, we look at restaurant promotion and point of sale material for use with your online strategy.
Your restaurant promotional efforts online are more interactive and instant than most of your point of sale literature. With just the push of a button a table booking is made and a promotional code or coupon is downloaded or printed. Customers can order tickets or deliveries online and your menu is available for them.
Another point worth noting is that you are not limited by space; you can add extra pages for your customers to view if they wish more information.
Make your homepage clean with simple navigation buttons to get customers wherever they may want to go. You need something on your homepage to capture their attention otherwise they will be gone in seconds. Video is a great addition to the arsenal of attention grabbing features you could use. Video can captivate the attention better than any other medium and is a great restaurant promotional tactic.
If you use analytics or a similar tool to find how many times you have a visitor to your website, you can also see how long they stayed and where they went on your site. If you find people don't link to your other pages and just leave your site, the attention grabber is not working, try another! In fact always test to get the best results.
If you have a blog, update it often with good stuff that your customers want to know about, restaurant marketing begins at home. You can show recipes, cooking tips, what's happening/happened. Use your blog to encourage early booking for special events. Have posters on your blog or website advertising new menu's, specials, parties etc. Keep copies of your archived newsletters and always encourage your customers to comment, share their experiences with you and share your site with their friends.
Any literature that you produce for your restaurant should have a copy on your blog or your Facebook page, so that your customers can both see it and also print it.
Remember all this information is interactive and sharable. Don't miss an opportunity to do that as well as putting your contact details on everything, your restaurant name, address, telephone and email. Make all your Social media details available. Encourage everyone to sign up to your newsletter, Facebook friends, twitter following, blog comments. Part of your restaurant promotion should include interaction with your customers through your Facebook page, so you should always follow anyone who becomes a fan of yours. Your online community will become an ever more important part of your restaurant marketing strategy in the coming years, so build a strong presence now.
