Nokia explains the design process behind Symbian Belle

Symbian Belle
If you’ve always wondered what went through the minds of the designers at Nokia while they were designing Symbian Belle, you’re in luck. The company has recently posted up a short documentary on its official blog, describing the whole design process. Basically, the designers wanted users to spend less time looking down at their devices, and spend more time interacting with the world around them. With that in mind, they decided to make all the information in Symbian Belle just a glance away.

But seeing how most people don’t even have Symbian Belle on their phones, it’s just going to frustrate even more people learning about something they don’t have. Either way if you want to know more about Symbian Belle, check out the video documentary. What do you think? Did the designers manage to accomplish what they set out to do?

Nokia teams up with Monster

HTC might have acquired Beats for a cool $300 million, but that doesn’t mean the Taiwanese phone company is going to have all the fun. No sir, Nokia of Finland wants in on some audio accessory action as well, hence teaming up with Monster for their range of upcoming accessories.

Nokia might be an ailing ship at the moment, but that doesn’t mean they are about to be submerged anytime soon. They still command a sizeable presence in the featurephone market as well as emerging sectors, so hopefully the Monster range of Nokia accessories will be aesthetically pleasing in addition to being power performers that Monster’s range of headphones are famous for.

Just hope that Nokia’s future handsets would be hip and happening enough to go hand-in-hand with what Monster has in mind to revitalize this brand.

Knockoff Nokia N9 spotted in China

Wait, when did China get their hands on the Nokia N9? Nope, if you thought that was the Nokia N9, you can’t be blamed as it does look rather convincing upon first glance, especially with that garish magenta, which is one of the colors available for the actual Nokia N9 (along with black and turquoise).

The device is apparently a knockoff and is attempting to attract those who may purchase it thinking it is the Nokia N9. It has been reported to come priced at just $64 and it is unknown what platform it is running on. However it seems to come with a variety of themes that mimic a variety of platforms and popular user interfaces, such as MeeGo, iOS, HTC Sense, Symbian, Windows Phone 7, Blackberry and even Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

In terms of hardware, processor, RAM and ROM remain a mystery but it does come with dual SIM slots, a 3.8” WQVGA 240×400 resistive touch screen display along with a 1.3MP front and rear-facing cameras. According to M.I.C Gadget, the device was supposedly available on Taobao, which is China’s answer to eBay, but at the time of reporting it appears that the item has been removed from the site.

According to a report from Digitimes, it looks like Nokia is on track to releasing its Windows Phone devices by the end of this year. Qualcomm has been reported to have started shipping baseband chips to Nokia and Samsung for them to build their latest Windows Phones. This report corroborates with Nokia’s statement about having “increased confidence” regarding its first Windows Phone device shipping this year.

We’re two days away from October, which means we should see the first Nokia WP7 phone within the next few months. I’m also pretty sure that Nokia would want to take advantage of the holiday season to boost sales of the phone as well. Anyone looking forward to pick up a Nokia WP7 device?

Nokia Windows PhoneThose of you looking forward to get a Nokia phone running on Windows Phone 7 – good news. It has been reported that Nokia has “increased confidence” about shipping its first Windows Phone product this year. The company has previously slated a late 2011/early 2012 release date for its first WP7 device, but judging by the latest reports, it looks like it’ll be this year instead of next, which should be good news for everyone looking forward to the Nokia-Microsoft combo.

Nokia and Microsoft entered a partnership earlier this year to create Nokia WP7 devices and since then everyone’s been wondering about how it’s going to turn out. Nokia has been given permission to customize Windows Phone to its liking, which could give it an edge over the other manufacturers producing phones with the same platform as well, but it’s too early to tell right now. Either way, we can’t wait to see what the first Nokia WP7 phone will be like. Do you think Windows Phone could help pull Nokia out from its current slump?
