Looking for a sexy new Windows Phone device to purchase? Well, you might want to hold out for LG’s upcoming creation. The Korean company has worked together with a German fashion designer, Jil Sander to come up with the first Windows “Fashion Phone”. Called the LG Jil Sander E906, it features a sleek and slim device that features the signature Jil Sander electric blue trim. It’s definitely up there with one of the best looking phones I’ve ever seen, though the middle Windows button might be a bit too flash for me. Other than that I think it’s one sweet looking device.

The phone will pack WP first generation phone specs (except that it will ship with Mango) – a 1GHz processor, 3.8? TFT display, a 5-megapixel rear camera, 16GB of storage, and it will be preloaded with custom apps like the Jil Sander app for folks to easily reach the Jil Sander online store. The phone is expected to launch as early as tomorrow (October 7th) and will be available in Europe. No word of a US date or price, but the LG Jil Sander E906 has the potential to be a hot-selling WP7 device – provided that it’s priced reasonably. What do you think of the phone? A while back there was an issue with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform. Much like other mobile platforms such as Android and iOS, it appeared at that time that WP7 was collecting user location data, the same data that landed Apple in hot soup. However Microsoft claimed that WP7 does not collect user location data unless the user explicitly gives their consent. A WP7 jailbreaker by the name of Rafael Rivera who developed the WP7 jailbreaking tool, ChevronWP, is saying otherwise.

Take note that while conducting his tests, he was running on Windows Phone OS 7.0.7004.0, so we can’t be sure if Mango will “fix” this issue or if it has been removed since. In the tests that he conducted, it seemed that information such as OS version, Device Information, Wireless access points in the vicinity and other identifiers were being transmitted to agps.location.live.net and inference.location.live.net.

What was troubling was that all these packets of information are being sent even before he gave his consent to the camera application to collect his location data. It seems that this applies to the different builds of WP7 (Mango not withstanding). We can’t be sure what Microsoft is using this location data for, and the question that is being asked is whether Microsoft stores this data or if they’re kept as a temporary file and then deleted after it has been used. Either way, if this turns out to be true, Microsoft will have a lot of explaining to do.

While we all know that Mango has been completed for some time now, and we’re just waiting for phone manufacturers and carriers to start pushing the update out, it’s been a long time since we’ve heard any news about the update. Well, here to put an end to all rumors and speculation, Eric Hautala, General Manager of Windows Phone, announced on the official Windows Phone blog that the Mango update will be rolled out in a week or two.

Now that’s a pretty vague timeline, but hey – it’s better than nothing. After all 14 days isn’t that long of a wait, especially after waiting all these months. Not to mention, there’s a possibility it arrives earlier than expected. In addition to keeping an eye out for the update, you might want to make sure your Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac or Zune software for PCs is updated because you’ll need it to update your phones. Windows Phone 7 users, get ready to celebrate – the wait is almost over.

Word is going around that the web version of Windows Phone Marketplace has already gone live – so that means those of you who are about to pick up your first Windows Phone Mango smartphone (or have upgraded your Windows Phone 7 with the Mango update) will soon be able to give apps a go there, with the option of purchasing them directly on the handset, of course.

So far, it has been confirmed that the site is accessible via the newly redesign portal both in Germany and in the US. At Marketplace, you are able to browse for any app that suits your fancy (if they have it), as well as give more than 30,000 plus apps a whirl before you drop some chump change for them. At the moment, if you attempt to purchase an app or use the trial, you will be met with an error as Microsoft is still working on the back end even as you read this.

If you’re going to win the smartphone race, concentrating on the high end market alone is not going to help you emerge victorious among your rivals, although it might let you pick up some accolades along the way if you’re consistent at the high end side of things. Well, Microsoft certainly knows this, and while their Windows Phone 7 handsets have been pretty impressive to date, there are new specifications being leaked about a lower-end chassis that will comprise of the Windows Phone line-up – and a rumored minor update for Windows Phone known as Tango could very well be tweaked to cater to low-end devices.

Hence, a new chassis which was recently spotted could very well be the base for such handsets, where the majority of the specifications on this chassis will play nice with all versions of Windows Phone such as multitouch support of at least 4 points, A-GPS, Accelerometer, Compass and Proximity sensors, a minimum 3-megapixel camera, and microUSB and 3.5mm headphone connectors.

Forget about a minimum 8GB of internal memory as this chassis supports a minimum of just 2GB, and while there is no additional information on the minimum CPU specifications, chances are you might even see a slower processor.

While our smartphones can be used for just about anything these days – checking our email, surfing the web, playing games, watching movies, what if one day we had a smartphone that came with interchangeable parts to accomplish those specific tasks? Well Microsoft has recently filed for a patent for what appears to be the Swiss Army knife of smartphones.

Based on the patent drawing above, it depicts a slider smartphone with the area where a keyboard can usually be found being empty. That space which can be used to attach a QWERTY keyboard can also attach a variety of other modules, such as a gaming controller pad, an extra battery pack and even a secondary display. With Microsoft entering the mobile phone market with Windows Phone 7, we don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine that one day we will eventually start seeing devices like these, but for now we can only imagine.

Folks who have been holding out from getting a Windows Phone device because their favorite app wasn’t available on the platform have one app less to wait for now. Whatsapp, the popular multi-platform messaging app has finally arrived on Windows Phone 7. Available on multiple platforms such as Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Symbian, the app allows users to message each other using data instead of regular texts. This means no exorbitant costs especially if users like to text friends and family who aren’t in the country, as using data to send messages is pretty cheap and not to mention free at times (public WiFi etc).

It’s taken awhile to arrive but it’s here now, and it turns out that Mango was the key all along. Whatsapp is now available for folks with the Windows Phone Mango update on their devices – so non-Mango users will just have to wait for the update in order to download the app from the Windows Phone Marketplace.
