HOSPI-Rimo
At the upcoming International Home Care & Rehabilitation Exhibition (HCR 2011) on October 5-7th, 2011 in Tokyo, Japan; Panasonic will be showing off its new HOSPI-Rimo robot, Hair-Washing Robot and RoboticBed. These robots were specially designed to support people who need assistance to lead safe, comfortable and pleasant lives.

The HOSPI-Rimo is a robot that helps bed-ridden or folks with limited mobility to communicate with other people i.e. an attending doctor in a separate room in the hospital or friends who live far away. With the HOSPI-Rimo, they can communicate as if they were face to face (just that they won’t be able to touch each other through the robot).

The Hair-Washing Robot does exactly what its name says – it washes the hair of people who aren’t well enough to do it themselves. From wetting to shampooing, rinsing, conditioning and drying – the Hair-Washing Robot does it all. It would be interesting to see if Panasonic will come up with a Hair-Cut Robot next.

Lastly, the RoboticBed is an electric bed that can transform into an electric wheelchair and vice versa. For folks who can’t get out of bed, yet need to move around – the RoboticBed is the perfect solution. No word on pricing or availability, but if you happen to be at HCR 2011, you could drop by to check out to robots.

HOSPI-Rimo communication assistance robot from Panasonic

HOSPI-Rimo communication assistance robot from Panasonic | Ubergizmo window.fbAsyncInit = function() { FB.init({ appId : '139683546053659', status : true, // check login status cookie : true, // enable cookies to allow the server to access the session xfbml : true // parse XFBML }); }; (function() { var e = document.createElement('script'); e.src = document.location.protocol + '//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js'; e.async = true; document.getElementById('fb-root').appendChild(e); }()); Network:Ubergizmo English, French, SpanishUberphones Subscribe to RSS Ubergizmo ReviewsMobileGamingAndroidAppleComputersGadgetsConceptsPhoto/VideoEvents |  Jobs Home > Medical > HOSPI-Rimo communication assistance robot from Panasonic HOSPI-Rimo communication assistance robot from Panasonic Edwin Kee 09/26/2011 03:29 PDT

Panasonic recently lifted the curtain on their latest communication assistance robot known as HOSPI-Rimo – while there are other two new models of the Hair-Washing Robot and RoboticBed, we’ll concentrate on the HOSPI-Rimo instead. This particular robot is meant to offer support for people who require assistance to lead safe, comfortable and pleasant lives.

The HOSPI-Rimo basically functions as an intermediary that intends to ensure comfortable communication between people who are bedridden or have limited mobility with others. Take for instance, their attending doctor who is in a separate room in the hospital or friends who live far away, but communication can take place as though it was face-to-face. Sounds like video calls, no? The HOSPI-Rimo also does more than that, as it can deliver medication automatically, so chances are we’ll be seeing this in hospitals far more than in homes throughout Japan.

Hopefully the HOSPI-Rimo won’t be too expensive to purchase so that even the layperson can afford on if he/she prefers to receive medical care at home. [Press Release]

Panasonic Toughbook Android Tablet Revealed

Panasonic Toughbook Tablet

Panasonic has revealed its rugged Android tablet. It is a sturdy-looking 10.1? tablet that looks like it can take punishing shocks on every corner, without being knocked out. Panasonic pitches it as a “business tablet”, so it comes with 3G/4G and IT management features, including hardware-level features that could mean “encryption”. It also has handwriting recognition and does not need a stylus, which has been a hallmark of business tablet for so long.In technical terms, this Toughbook Android tablet has a 10.1? (1024×768) display which is optimized for outdoor use on a sunny day. It has two cameras (back/front), although there are no official specifications on those. Inside, Panasonic is using what they describe as a 3G/4G optional module but we don’t know if it’s 4G LTE or HSPA+ (more information about 4G networks). It also comes with a GPS.

Despite being relatively thick, this tablet does not come with a lot of ports: just a dock connector. That said, it’s understandable to some extent, as having more ports could also mean more potential entry points for dirt, water etc… Finally, Panasonic says that its battery life can last for a full-shift, which would imply 8hrs, but this is definitely not clear, so wait for independent reviews. Panasonic LUMIX twin-lens 3D digital camera to roll out in 2011

We do know that Panasonic is working on a new kind of LUMIX digital camera that is said to debut at IFA 2011, and the most recent press release touts a winter release date. Just what does this compact digital camera offer? For starters, it allows you to snap 3D photos as well as capture your favorite memories in stereoscopic 3D glory, in HD resolution to boot.

Just how did this particular new camera cram in all the features into a relatively small body? For starters, it will make use of a couple of newly developed 4x zoom lenses thanks to thin, folded optics. With its optical zoom system, it will deliver highly versatile 3D shooting with wide angle to telephoto, not to mention an Optical Image Stabilizer that will also be hard at work regardless of whether you shoot 2D and 3D images/videos.

There are advantages in the incorporation of the twin-lens design, where they can shoot full-pixel 2D photos while capturing 2D videos simultaneously. In addition, this new shooter can also capture 3D HD videos in the AVCHD format thanks to the side-by-side method. We expect to get a photo of this new LUMIX very, very soon and will update accordingly. [Press Release]

A quartet of companies that comprise of Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and X6D Limited (also known as XPAND 3D) has announced that Royal Philips Electronics, Sharp Corporation, TCL Corporation and Toshiba Corporation have all together expressed support for activities taht involve the “Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative”. This industry standardization will comprise of different types of infrared (IR) system protocols between 3D active shutter glasses and 3D displays, where these protocols were conjured in a joint-venture by Panasonic and XPAND 3D, merging with proprietary protocols of Samsung and Sony.

Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, and XPAND did announce their intent to work together on the development and licensing of Bluetooth enabled radio frequency (RF) system 3D active shutter glasses technology, where among them include RF system protocols between consumer 3D active shutter glasses as well as 3D displays including televisions, personal computers and projectors, not to mention 3D theaters with XPAND active shutter glasses.

It is expected that the license program for the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative will begin soon. 3D synchronization emitters, 3D active shutter glasses or Bluetooth chip devices for such products will be able to get hold of a license to begin working on and rolling out devices which will take advantage of Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative technology. Needless to say, the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative will involve the use of a distinct logo to tell it apart from the rest, while making it a whole lot easier for consumers to recognize interoperability among 3D active shutter products.
