Electric vehicles are great as they’re zero emissions vehicles, but then again there is the problem of how long the batteries are able to last, and not to mention the fact that charging points are few and far in between – even more so when you want to drive to the outskirts. Well, having said that, electric vehicles also aren’t known to be performance on the asphalt, but Morgan and Zytek intends to change that with a new high performance electric vehicle.

We’re talking about a lightweight aluminum body that you see above with a 70kW electric motor inside – where this people mover has been dubbed as the Electric Morgan +E. It is going to be an extremely rare vehicle since only two of them will be made, but assuming the experience ends up in a favorable manner, “further developments” might be in the pipeline.

It is nice to know that the +E shall retain the original motor-powered SuperSports’ manual transmission, so that energy will be used in a far more efficient manner that directly results in an increase in the vehicle’s range. Not only that, it will also pave the way for lower gearing for rapid acceleration from pull-away and higher gearing for top speed.

Driving a hybrid/electric vehicle isn’t the same as driving a regular fuel-powered vehicle. The point of hybrids and EVs is to minimize the use of fuel, which is not only greener but could potentially be more efficient in terms of mileage, although the latter seems to apply more to hybrids than EVs which have a set range before needing to charge.

Either way, with hybrids and EVs possibly being the choice of vehicles in the future, the AA DriveTech Academy in the UK has launched a training course aimed at hybrid and EV drivers.

The training course is more of a workshop and supposedly will only last about three and a half hours, and covers the differences between conventional fuel/diesel vehicles and hybrid/electric vehicles. It will also teach drivers techniques on how to maximize economy, refuel, recharge and plan their journeys.

Given how EVs have been painted in a negative light due to their short range and long charge times, perhaps this course will address some of those issues. Would a course like this convince you to adopt a hybrid or EV as your next car purchase?

When you think Bentley, you think luxury, and with our cars starting to feature more and more integration with our smartphones and tablets, it looks like Bentley may have taken it to the next level with a Mac Mini integration in their concept Mulsanne flagship luxury vehicle that was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Not just content with integrating one Mac Mini, the Mulsanne concept vehicle will also come integrated with two iPads, two Apple wireless keyboards, and to top it all of, an iPod touch which will be used as the heart of its entertainment system. The reason behind the integration of so many devices is because the Mulsanne is targeted at the power business user, who apparently requires to be on top of their business commitments at all times, even while traveling.

A 15.6” display drops down from the roof console, which is connected to the Mac Mini, which also keeps the two iPads in sync, while the iPod touch acts as a control panel for the Rear Seat Entertainment and audio system for the rest of the vehicle.

Wonder how much all of this will cost? It seems that if the car gets made, just the car alone will set you back $346,000, and if you would like to add on the Apple package, it will cost you an additional $138,580. Ouch.

Don’t you hate it when you have many family members sharing the same car, and you need to use the car but you need to spend the next several minutes adjusting the seat, mirrors, radio station, etc? While it may not be making its way into our vehicles in the near future, an Extreme Blue project organized by IBM has resulted in the Smarter Vehicle platform.

Through the use of an RFID tag that the car owner is wearing, the car will be able to react accordingly. I suppose one could think of the RFID tag as a user profile where the car will adjust the seat accordingly, change the radio to your favorite station, heat the seats, etc. The system will even store more than just personal preferences and apparently will learn where the user is going.

Not just content with minor conveniences and personal preferences, sensors built into the steering wheel can check the driver’s heart rate and blood pressure to keep an eye on the stress levels, levels which will without doubt rise during bad traffic jams. Those who took part in the project have apparently been in touch with car maker Jaguar who may be considering using this technology should it make its way outside of the lab.
