While the Nexus Prime may have accidentally been outed as “coming soon”, many were wondering what the original reason behind the delay was to begin with. According to Samsung, the reason why the event has been pushed back is due to the company deciding to express their tribute to the passing of Steve Jobs, which sounds about right and a rather respectable move, especially considering that both Apple and Samsung aren’t exactly on the best of terms at the moment.

However Eldar Murtazin, a famed blogger who has managed to land some pretty heavy hitting scoops in the past, has tweeted that apparently this delay is due to Google removing certain features from either/both the Nexus Prime or/and Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 due to possible patent infringement lawsuits in the future.

Given that this will be Google’s third Nexus device in their series, and it is manufactured by Samsung who is already embroiled in a series of patent infringement lawsuits against Apple, further complications and potential lawsuits in the near future is probably something Google/Samsung is hoping to avoid, especially if it were to come from their platform and handset manufacturer rival, Apple. While the rumors have suggested a 3rd of November release of the Nexus Prime, Eldar Murtazin’s tweet just states “No timeline for this job.”

While he has managed to land some scoops in the past, he has also had his fair share of misses, so until the official word has been given, let’s just take this with a grain of salt.

Sprint users you may be in for some good news! According to a report that just surfaced, it looks like a Sprint-specific iPad 2 may be headed your way, assuming of course you buy into the rumors. 

A few days back we reported that Sprint was apparently training their employees for a possible iPhone 4 launch, and it was also suggested at that time that Sprint was preparing their own iPad, and it looks like that rumor is starting to gain a bit of traction.

The current report is suggesting that Apple and Sprint have completed a version of the iPad 2 that will be able to run on Sprint’s network, and apparently the tablet will be ready for sale in time for the holidays, although no specific date was mentioned. The report also suggests that the iPad will be either launched alongside the rumored iPhone 5 or will be launched shortly after the iPhone 5.

Given how Sprint is currently operating a 4G WiMax network, it will be interesting to see if the iPad will be compatible with the WiMax connection, although if the report is to believed and how Apple and Sprint have supposedly worked together on the iPad, a 4G WiMax capable iPad will definitely be interesting.

With the iPhone 5 launch supposedly around the corner, the rumors have been saying that this time round all the major carriers will be carrying the device. According to a purported leaked internal memo from Sprint, it appears that they are gearing up for the possibility of an iPhone 5 launch and have blacked out the 30th of September to the 15th of October as possible dates. Now there are new rumors that suggest Sprint will not be getting the iPhone 5, but rather an iPhone 4.

Based on how the internal memo was worded, we can’t be sure if Sprint was being cautious about leaks and worded it in such a way that they seemed to not know if there would be an iPhone 5, or if they genuinely had no clue and were just playing it safe. If it was the latter, according to TUAW, a Sprint Nextel sales associate told them that it was not the iPhone 5 that would be launching, but instead it would be the iPhone 4 and that the carrier had supposedly started briefing their employees on the imminent launch.

If that is indeed the case, it looks like Sprint will not be getting the iPhone 5 until 2012. Given all the previous rumors and speculation that is pointing at an October release of the iPhone 5, it does not make much sense for Sprint to be sporting the iPhone 4 since would-be iPhone buyers will be focused on the iPhone 5 and not the iPhone 4. It does sound like someone is trying to throw something into the mix to spice things up, but then again those reports could be dead on for all we know. Any Sprint users out there who may be disappointed with this piece of news?

At the moment two carriers in the US are sporting the iPhone 4 – AT&T and Verizon. The iPhone 5 is rumored to be launched across all the major carriers, which means that if this true, subscribers on T-Mobile and Sprint will finally be able to enjoy the iPhone 5 on contract that AT&T and Verizon users have been enjoying all this while. Even better news for Sprint users as it seems that Sprint will be retaining their unlimited data plan even after the iPhone 5 arrives.

This does not confirm the existence or imminent launch of the iPhone 5 as this was not confirmed by Sprint themselves, just by people who supposedly were familiar with the matter. However with carriers such as Verizon who cancelled their unlimited data plan, if the iPhone 5 were to arrive on Sprint and if the unlimited data plan were to remain, the possibility of subscribers on other competing networks jumping ship to Sprint’s network is very likely. Could this be one of the plans Sprint’s CEO Dan Hesse had up his sleeve to protect themselves against AT&T and T-Mobile’s merger?

Apple has always liked doing things their way, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. On one hand, by doing their own thing Apple has managed to set themselves apart from the rest of the pack, but on the other hand certain aspects have caused some of their users a bit of headache. For example when the first iPod was released it used FireWire to connect to Macs exclusively, and now Apple has Thunderbolt, another piece of technology that isn’t available on the PC.

Granted that Thunderbolt does not belong to Apple but rather Intel, the amount of Thunderbolt peripheral devices available in the market is not a lot and they can cost quite a fair bit. USB, as the “Universal” in its name suggests, is widely adopted across PCs and Macs, but the latest version USB 3.0 has yet to make its way to Apple computer, but now it  has been reported that Apple is looking to add USB 3.0 ports to their computers by sourcing it from third party host controller chips instead of waiting for Intel.

While there are benefits to Thunderbolt technology, the fact of the matter is there are more USB 3.0 devices available in the market that don’t necessarily cost more than their USB 2.0 counterparts and instead of looking at USB 3.0 as competition, it should instead be looked at as complementary technology.

Given how the MacBook Air, Mac Mini and iMac have seen a refresh not too long ago, we expect USB 3.0’s to make their way to the next refreshes, assuming of course the reports are true. What do you guys think? Would USB 3.0 be a welcome addition to your Mac? Or are you still holding out on Thunderbolt reigning supreme?
