The Motorola Droid RAZR/Motorola Spyder has been talked about quite a bit. Given how the iconic name RAZR name was used back in the day of the feature phone to refer to one of Motorola’s more stylish offerings, it’s natural that there was quite a bit of buzz surrounding the Droid RAZR.

While there has been tons of rumors and speculation surrounding the device, all will be revealed come 18th of October 2011 where Motorola will be holding an event in New York City. While it was not explicitly mentioned that the Motorola Droid RAZR will be revealed/announced, the slogan for the invite which reads, “Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger.” and the teaser video where an image of a razor blade pops up in the 14 second mark, leaves little to the imagination.

If the idea of the RAZR doesn’t really excite you, it has been speculated that perhaps more than just the RAZR will be revealed at the event, such as updates for the Motorola Xoom tablet and possibly its successor? I guess we will have to wait and find out! In the meantime check out the teaser video from Motorola below.

Interested in getting your hands on the Acer Aspire S3? If you are, the good news is that the ultrabook is close to being released and you should be able to get your hands on the device come 16th of October. For those interested or who may have forgotten about the Acer Aspire S3, you can expect an ultrabook 0.51” thick and weighing in at 2.89 pounds.

Potential buyers can also expect a 13.3” display, an Intel Core i5-2467M processor with 4GB of RAM and Intel Integrated HD graphics, the difference between the Acer Aspire S3 and the MacBook Air is that instead going full SSD like the MacBook Air, Acer has instead done something rather interesting by mixing it up with an SSD and a regular hard drive.

The 20GB SSD will be used to house Windows 7 Home Premium while a 320GB 5400RPM hard drive will be used to store files that the user may not access frequently. According to Acer, users can expect a 2 second resume and boot time, along with a 6 hour battery life. If you’d like to pre-order the Acer Aspire S3, head on down to Amazon’s website and pre-order your ultrabook for $900.

Verizon iPhone 4S coming this October 14th

iPhone 4SVerizon Wireless is up next in line to officially announce the iPhone 4S right after Sprint, and of course the terms and conditions would be pretty much the same – I guess it really boils down to which carrier you would like to place your hard earned dollars with, where the 8GB iPhone 4S starts from $99.99 onwards, going all the way to $399 for the 64GB model – all with a 2-year contract, of course.

Those who are interested will be able to place a pre-order for the iPhone 4S online from this Friday onwards, which is October the 7th, where said smartphone will arrive a week after that in front of your doorsteps. Of course, what good is the iPhone 4S if it does not come with its own voice and data plan?

You can opt for the $39.99 voice plan for 450 minutes and a data plan from $30 for 2GB monthly onwards, and needless to say, anything more than that would mean having to fork out even more moolah. [Press Release]

Apple issues invitations for 4th October iPhone media event

As it turns out, it looks like those rumors about a 4th of October announcement for the next iPhone may be true. Apple has issued invitations to the media for a special iPhone event, which confirms the previous reports that it would be held at Apple’s Cupertino campus. Not much was revealed in the invite, although we guess that’s to be expected since they probably are keeping the good stuff until the event itself.

As you can see in the picture above, the invite included iOS icons such as the Calendar (which shows the 4th, which is a Tuesday), a Clock that’s set a 10am, a Map and a Phone, and is accompanied by the tag line “Let’s talk iPhone.” We expect that it’s also during this event where iOS 5 and iCloud will be launched, along with a more than likely refresh of the iPod line, and possibly even the launch of the Facebook application for the iPad. Finally, something that isn’t a rumor.

iPhone 5 coming to O2 21st October?

Tyler Lee 09/12/2011 10:04 PDT

When the iPhone launches, usually it’s the lucky folks in the states who get their hands on the device first, with the rest of the world watching in envy and eagerly anticipating when they will be able to get their hands on the iPhone. Well, while we can’t be sure if the UK will be getting the iPhone at the same time as the US, an apparent date for the next-generation iPhone has been leaked by O2.

According to KnowYourMobile, one of their tipsters allegedly made a call to O2’s customer service hotline where he/she was told (by accident?) that they should be able to expect the iPhone 5 to arrive on the 21st of October. No additional specs or information was given out other than the purported release date.

Now we can’t confirm the veracity of the tipster’s story, it seems highly unlikely that the frontliners of the customer service on telcos will be privy to that sort of sensitive information, especially since Apple has been known for their extra tight security surrounding leaks.

Now if a higher up executive from O2 actually said the 21st of October, it might have been slightly more believable. At the same for all we know, the customer service rep could have been dead-on, but if you’re an O2 customer, perhaps the 21st of October is a date you may want to mark down on your calendar.

Ah, the circle of life continues as a device hits the FCC only to see it being prepared for a release shortly after that – case in point, the Kobo Vox that recently made an appearance at the FCC, only to have it show up on Futureshop.ca with a specifications sheet, shipping date of October 17th as well as $250 Loonies. That’s Canadian dollars for you just in case you were not aware.

Well, it didn’t take too long for that boo-boo to reach the ears of Futureshop.ca, hence the removal of the product page within a couple of hours after it first hit the Internet. The specifications sheet do point towards the Vox as an Android-powered tablet, but there was no version information to go along with it. The Vox should be able to fit comfortably into the palm of your hand with its 7? display at 1,024 × 600, where the chassis will also carry Wi-Fi connectivity, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot to augment that figure even more, a speaker, as well as access to the Android Market. Angry Birds, anyone?

Tipping the scales at 400 grams, the battery life is rumored to last for around 6 hours, although we do not know in what context that figure was quoted. Bear in mind that until an official product page with its specifications are released, the above are just general guidelines that might change in time.

Facebook for iPad app to launch on October 4th? Edwin Kee 09/27/2011 04:15 PDT

It has yet to be confirmed that Apple will make an announcement for the iPhone 5 at the upcoming October 4th event which will be held at their headquarters in Cupertino, California, where some people speculate that it could be an iOS 5 announcement first, followed by the iPhone 5 fanfare some 10 days down the road. Either way, if you’re an Apple employee, you’ve got your vacation days blocked out already, so this is merely a case of which comes first – the chicken or the egg.

If Apple prefers to make an announcement of the iOS 5 update, then chances are pretty good that the Facebook for iPad app might also be launched then – something that is long overdue due to negotiations between the two companies. Don’t you find it strange that despite the iPad being released for nearly two years already, there is still no official iPad app?

It is said that the upcoming update to the Facebook for iPhone app will offer “design and speed improvements that mimic the iPad app” – so that should be confirmation enough for those who are wondering whether the Facebook for iPad app is still in unicorn status.
