The Motorola Droid RAZR/Motorola Spyder has been talked about quite a bit. Given how the iconic name RAZR name was used back in the day of the feature phone to refer to one of Motorola’s more stylish offerings, it’s natural that there was quite a bit of buzz surrounding the Droid RAZR.

While there has been tons of rumors and speculation surrounding the device, all will be revealed come 18th of October 2011 where Motorola will be holding an event in New York City. While it was not explicitly mentioned that the Motorola Droid RAZR will be revealed/announced, the slogan for the invite which reads, “Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger.” and the teaser video where an image of a razor blade pops up in the 14 second mark, leaves little to the imagination.

If the idea of the RAZR doesn’t really excite you, it has been speculated that perhaps more than just the RAZR will be revealed at the event, such as updates for the Motorola Xoom tablet and possibly its successor? I guess we will have to wait and find out! In the meantime check out the teaser video from Motorola below.

DROID Bionic
Whenever a new gadget is released, like clockwork, you can expect the iFixit gang to get their paws on it for their trademark disassemblies. This time it’s Motorola’s long-awaited Android superphone – the DROID Bionic. As usual, iFixit managed to take the phone apart, detailing the whole process as they went along, revealing all the parts that went into the construction of the phone (no they’re not robot parts, as much as the advert would like you to believe).

Judging by what the iFixit folks reported, the DROID Bionic is very neat on the inside, with parts placed mostly on one side of the board, and a reparability score of 9/10 which means it should be no problem to fix yourself – should the need ever arise. Head over to iFixit for the full report and high resolution photographs of the phone’s insides. Be sure to check out our DROID Bionic review if you haven’t already.

DROID Bionic extended battery doesn’t look too bad

DROID Bionic extended battery
As we all know, 4G LTE technology is still in its pretty early stages, and at the moment it doesn’t play too well with today’s phones. Manufacturers are slowly improving how much battery radios use, but they’re still a long way off from perfecting it. At the moment there are only two solutions to the problem – turn off 4G, or get a bigger battery. Unfortunately, extended batteries for most phones are big and bulky, so manufacturers usually leave them as optional accessories, so consumers have to fork out extra cash for them.

Which brings us to the DROID Bionic. Released yesterday, this phone is no different when it comes to sucking the life out of batteries with its LTE radio on, good thing there’s an extended battery available for the phone. The folks over at Android Central recently got their hands on one and did a hands-on report about it. It adds a noticeable bump to the back of the phone but it doesn’t stray too far from the phone’s original design.

The extended battery has a capacity of 2760mAh (as opposed to the 1700mAh stock battery) so it should significantly improve the phone’s time away from the charger. The extended battery for the DROID Bionic should cost you $49.99 (without any discounts). Anybody bought the DROID Bionic with the extended battery as well? What’s the battery life like?

Motorola DROID Bionic website unlocked

DROID Bionic
After the long string of delays and leaks regarding the phone and the recent arrival of the phone’s promo materials it looks like the DROID Bionic is almost here. Yesterday four tech blogs (BGR, Joystiq, Boing Boing, and Android Central) received special suitcases containing materials for the DROID Bionic viral marketing campagin. Each blog received a key which they had to enter at the official DROID website to unlock something. Well, it looks like the four blogs have had their codes verified and a previously inaccessible level of the DROID website has been unlocked.

So what was unlocked? If you were hoping for official pics or specs of the device, you’re wrong, but that doesn’t mean we don’t learn anything new about the upcoming phone. The unlocked site plays a video clip that shows users a whole bunch of people running around with everything but the DROID Bionic in their hands. Tablets, TVs, laptops, Quadcopters and even Verizon’s other DROID phones, but no sign of the Bionic anywhere..

The video ends with a message about ARENA – an augmented reality scavenger hunt that begins in about 58 hours (at this time of writing). Good thing about the scavenger hunt is the prizes are the devices shown in the TV, and the inclusion of a DROID Bionic, which I’m sure will get a lot of people participating in the contest. Head over to the official DROID website to check it out.

DROID Bionic release date
After all the rumors about the Motorola DROID Bionic being released next week on September 8th, it looks like we finally have some official proof stating the phone’s release date. A Phandroid reader managed to catch Verizon’s TV advertisement for the DROID Bionic, and while it isn’t what we haven’t seen before, the video ends with a date in big bold letters: “[09.08.11]”.

While it doesn’t say launching on/in stores on etc – we’re pretty sure that’s the date we’ll be seeing on sale. After all you don’t build up so much hype for the phone, and then give a date that people can finally pre-order the device and then wait for it some more. Consumers would just be disappointed. What do you think? Video recording of the advert after the break:

Motorola DROID 2 receives Android 2.3 Gingerbread update at last

While we reported that owners of the Motorola DROID 2 who rock with Verizon Wireless will be getting their hands on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update really soon, word from Motorola themselves over at Twitter have pointed out that this will be happening in phases, where among the upgrades will include a new user interface amongst others.

The software update will end up as version 4.5.601.A955.Verizon.en.US, where it will comprise of a far more efficient download manager app that allows you to manage your collection of downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps. Apart from that, you can also take advantage of a new “Running” tab that shows off a list of active applications and the amount of storage and memory used by each.

Other changes include multi-touch key-chording, which basically allows you to enter numbers and symbols with keyboard shortcut combos without having to revert to the numeric keyboard mode. In addition, improved word selection and copy functionality lets you select a word via press-hold, while a second press of the selected word copies the selected characters.

You can check out the list of full changes here in the form of a PDF file if you’re interested.
