Samsung Galaxy Note 5.3Samsung’s sexy upcoming Android device, the Galaxy Note 5.3 isn’t expected to be released until 2012, but it looks like the company has decided to get formalities out of the way first, as the large-screen phone has paid a visit to the offices of the FCC. Passing through without any issue, the Galaxy Note (GT-I9220) sports North American 3G/4G bands that are compatible with AT&T’s network. Other than that, no other additional details were revealed – then again, there’s not much we don’t know after its official unveiling earlier this month.

The Galaxy Note is a “phone-let” (too small to be a tablet, too large to be a phone) that packs a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, a 5.3? HD Super AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, an S Pen interface and stylus, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a 2,500mAh battery. Let’s hope the FCC filing of the Android device means it might drop earlier than expected. Anybody planning on picking one up when it goes on sale?

It might seem to be all guts and glory when you sign up for Uncle Sam, but those who return from the battlefield will tell you that what you see on the silver screen is scripted – everything else when you’re there in person is a totally different dimension. You can never quite tell when a bomb might go off anytime, and in what form it would come in. Well, one thing’s for sure – the military has tried their best so far to stop insurgent bombs but to no avail, they still go off from time to time.

Guess a robotic car might have a better chance in the effort to prevent any more unnecessary deaths, inspired by the ‘Hoff’s 1980s classic, Knight Rider. 5D Robotics from California recently picked up a contract to develop an interface with an “intelligent” unmanned car which is said to “effectively perform improvised explosive device defeat (IEDD) tasks remotely.”

Sounds as though this might be a precursor to what Bumblebee or Ironhide is – after all, aren’t those Transformers super intelligent beings that a bomb shouldn’t be able to be too much trouble to defuse?

As it turns out, it looks like those rumors about a 4th of October announcement for the next iPhone may be true. Apple has issued invitations to the media for a special iPhone event, which confirms the previous reports that it would be held at Apple’s Cupertino campus. Not much was revealed in the invite, although we guess that’s to be expected since they probably are keeping the good stuff until the event itself.

As you can see in the picture above, the invite included iOS icons such as the Calendar (which shows the 4th, which is a Tuesday), a Clock that’s set a 10am, a Map and a Phone, and is accompanied by the tag line “Let’s talk iPhone.” We expect that it’s also during this event where iOS 5 and iCloud will be launched, along with a more than likely refresh of the iPod line, and possibly even the launch of the Facebook application for the iPad. Finally, something that isn’t a rumor.

Could Europe’s iPhone sport a micro USB interface?

Could Europe’s iPhone sport a micro USB interface? Tyler Lee 09/29/2011 06:43 PDT

Most, if not all phones in Europe use a micro USB interface (pictured above circled in red) to charge and sync, but Apple has stubbornly held on to their 30-pin dock connector design. Back in 2009 the European Commission managed to reach a voluntary agreement with 10 mobile phone manufacturers to adopt a standard micro USB interface, and Apple was one of the parties who signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which basically stated that they would comply.

While the iPhone 4S/5 has yet to be revealed, it is possible that it could sport the micro USB interface, at least as far as the European models are concerned, but Steven Sandle at TUAW doesn’t seem to think so. It seems that while Apple did sign a MoU, it is not legally binding, which means that Apple could go back on their word at any time (which could make them look bad in the process). However for more obvious reasons, Apple will most likely not be adopting the micro USB interface is because of the sheer amount of accessories and docking systems available right now for the iPhone.

Instead what Apple may do, according to Steven Sandle, is that they could stick to their current 30-pin connector while providing an adapter that will allow connection via micro USB. Not only will this let Apple comply with the European Commission but at the same time allow accessory makers to keep pushing out accessories with the dock connector. For those living in Europe and who love the micro USB standard, this could be good news indeed!

Take note that this is purely speculation and meant for discussion purposes – would our European readers appreciate an iPhone that complied with the micro USB standard?

Lego Style MacBook Keyboard Decal

The Macbook itself is an icon, and so is Lego. What happens when you have passion for both of them? Well, the result is a rather weird looking Lego Style MacBook Keyboard Decal – where it takes just minutes to assemble (according to the product description anyways), and it will definitely make your MacBook a whole lot different from the rest of the gang’s – unless they purchase their own, too.

Featuring an ultra high-resolution design with full detail precision cut technology, these unique keyboard decals will not leave any messy residue when removed. The entire decal is printed on a vinyl material from Avery Graphics that hails form the US, and it is expected to last quite long – at least until your next MacBook upgrade, of course.

The $15 Lego Style MacBook Keyboard Decal is available over at Etsy, where it will play nice with the white 13? MacBook as well as the 13?, 15? and 17? MacBook Pro. Bear in mind that this is not a full covered decal, and I’m not quite sure whether your fingertips would agree to this or not after a marathon session of typing.

Are you a huge fan of the Ratchet & Clank franchise? Well, those who answered in the affirmative will be pleased to know that the dynamic duo’s latest outing, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One Luminopolis just had its trailer released. Here’s a quick synopsis of what gist of the game is like.

One of the frequent questions we get is how the evil Dr. Nefarious ended up with Ratchet, Clank, and President Qwark. We actually explain this at the beginning of the game: Ratchet, Clank and Qwark have arrived on the planet of Luminopolis so that now Galactic President Qwark can pick up an Intergalactic Tool of Justice Award. Of course, there is no such award as it’s all an elaborate ruse by Dr. Nefarious to lure our heroes into a trap. Dr. Nefarious’s plan goes awry, and when your plan involves a giant light-eating Z’Grute, you know it’s going to be bad. Nefarious realises he has no choice but to begrudgingly help our heroes to save his own skin.

Enjoy the video after the jump that lets you check out some of the more spectacular bosses that you will experience in the game. It will be Ratchet & Clank‘s first four-player co-op adventure, and it will take a few more weeks of anxious waiting before it arrives on store shelves.

Huawei collaborates with Discovery Channel for Huawei-Discovery Expedition handset

Home > CellPhones > Huawei collaborates with Discovery Channel for Huawei-Discovery Expedition handset Tyler Lee 09/27/2011 09:32 PDT

Huawei has collaborated with Red Bull in the past to introduce the RBM HD rugged handset, which is otherwise known as the Impulse for AT&T. It looks like that collaboration is back, but this time instead of Red Bull, Huawei has teamed up with the Discovery Channel to introduce the Huawei-Discovery Expedition phone, which considering the shows and programs that the Discovery Channel puts out, is a rather fitting name.

First of all, don’t expect anything too fancy from this device. Given its name and the company that Huawei has teamed up with, you would not be mistaken to expect yet another rugged device from the handset manufacturer. If you happen to love the outdoors and go camping or hiking often, then perhaps this handset might have something for you.

The Huawei-Discovery Expedition handset is said to be able to withstand water, dust and electrical shock. It will also come with features that you will need while outdoors, such as GPS, a G-sensor (accelerometer), a compass and even a built-in torch. Oddly enough, for a phone designed for the outdoors (and in conjunction with the Discovery Channel), there doesn’t appear to be a camera.

However if the lack of camera is fine by you, and you have a DSLR on hand for your outdoor photography needs, Huawei has said that the device can be expected in Q4 of 2011, although pricing and carriers have yet to be announced.

MacBook Pro
It looks like we’re going to see some new MacBook Pro notebooks very soon. According to a report from Apple Insider, a highly trusted source with insight into Apple’s future product plans told them that the fruity company has a MacBook Pro refresh in store for us – and they are slated to arrive in stores before the end of the month.

However, as the name implies, the refreshed notebooks only feature minor improvements over the current generation MacBook Pros. The 15? and 17? MacBook Pros are said to use Intel’s latest Core i7 processors that were recently released, while the entry level 13? MacBook Pro will get slightly faster Core i5 processors as well.

Other than the processor upgrade there should be no other changes to the MacBook Pros. The refresh is said to just serve as a transition between the current MacBook Pros and the future MacBook Pros that should feature Intel’s upcoming Ivy Bridge processors. We’re already halfway through the month so we won’t have to wait too long to see if these reports are true or not.
