I cannot believe that I actually let this slip past my radar – sure, the story might have broke cover a week ago, but it is still interesting to know that your average LEGO does much more than simulate the imagination of whoever plays with it. Some enterprising person was approached by LEGO to build the first LEGO Greenhouse in the world, having paraded it at the 2011 London Design Festival.
Needless to say, this is the first fully functional hothouse of its kind that is made out of LEGO bricks entirely, thanks to the brainchild of award-winning designer Sebastian Bergne. He did not do this without any help though, as he was commissioned by LEGO UK to come up with this bricked wonder. Taking around 100,000 LEGO bricks to complete, everything is LEGO in there – ranging from the walls, floors, and even the earth, using either translucent or brown pieces. Of course, the rest of the flora inside like tomatoes, peppers and sunflowers are the real deal.
What’s next? Translucent LEGO bricks with built-in solar panels?
