Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Fans of Harry Potter who still haven’t gotten their hands on the 3D Blu-ray versions of the final two Harry Potter movies because they don’t own any 3D players now have a reason to invest in one. Sony has announced that it will be providing the “Harry Potter 3D Experience” with any purchases of its selected products – the Sony BDP-S780 Blu-ray Disc player with 3D or the BDV-E580 Blu-Ray 3D home theater system.

The “Harry Potter 3D Experience” will consist of Blu-ray 3D versions of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2. In addition to the 3D movies, the bundles will also include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on Blu-ray (2D) and digital vouchers to download the same movies on compatible devices through Video Unlimited on the Sony Entertainment Network or PlayStation Store. Two pairs of Sony active 3D glasses will also be provided with the bundle. Talk about a great deal for any Potter fan!

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
It’s been awhile since the original Samsung Galaxy Tab was released, and it looks like Samsung is ready to give it a proper successor. The company just announced today the launch of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. Improving upon the original tablet in almost every way, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 7? WSVGA (1024 x 600) PLS display (unfortunately no Super AMOLED Plus here), 1GB of RAM, 16/32GB of internal memory, microSD slot (up to 32GB), 3-megapixel auto focus rear camera, 2-megapixel front facing camera, Android 3.2 Honeycomb (with TouchWiz), and a 4,000mAh battery.

The tablet will also come preloaded with Samsung Apps, Social Hub, Google Mobile Services, Smart Remote, Enterprise Solutions, Adobe Flash, Document Editor and more. No word on pricing but the tablet will make its debut in Indonesia and Austria from end-October and gradually roll out to the rest of the world including the US. Anyone excited for the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus?

There are iOS speaker docks available in the market that usually just focus on connecting the device to the speakers and pumping music out. There are models that feature FM tuners but there are even less that feature CD players, but if you want a speaker system that will not only support docking for your iOS devices but come with a CD player and FM tuner, Harman Kardon’s MS 150 could be the speaker system that you have been looking for.

The MS 150 sports an LCD display and features two 30 watt bass-reflex loudspeakers. It will also come with three auxiliary audio inputs along with 3.5mm headphone jacks, one in the back and one in the front. It also sports a subwoofer output which will allow you to connect an external subwoofer, and will come bundled with an infrared remote control along with features such as a built-in alarm clock, sleep timer and a dimmer. With all these features, don’t expect the MS 150 to come cheap as it will be sporting a price tag of $689.95.

Tango For PC

Tango is a cross-platform mobile video calling application that launched a year ago both on Android and iOS. The application was downloaded one million time ten days after the launch and today, it has over 23 million users in 190 countries. According to Eric Setton, Founder and CTO, Tango, the usage – the time spent on the service – has doubled in the past 3 months.
The service is available on over 450 mobile devices, which is impressive knowing how difficult it is to address the Android fragmentation problem for a mobile application developer.

Tango for PC was the number one request from users; the company is launching the Windows version on its anniversary date.   The user interface is similar to the phone version, it reproduces a smartphone on the PC screen (see picture), making it easier for existing users to browse the PC application. People can use Tango between the PC, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch, iPad, and hundreds of Android phones and tablets.
Once the PC client is downloaded, people can create a Tango account by simply entering their mobile number. For Tango members, the PC will sync automatically to their mobile device after entering the phone number used to register on the mobile app.

We can expect more innovation from Tango in the near future: according to Eric Setton, thanks to its rapid growth, the company is now able to talk directly to hardware manufacturers such as Qualcomm to develop better software. On phones powered by the latest Snapdragon SoCs, like the HTC Sensation for example, Tango is capable of directly accessing the video encoding chip to deliver a higher frame rate and high resolution for video playback.  Additionally, the application will soon be available on Windows Phone 7.

Tango is available in the App Store and Android Market, and for the PC, available as a free download at www.tango.me.

It seems that the owners of Cava 22 have something which the SFPD are interested in – surveillance footage in the bar where an Apple employee allegedly lost an unreleased iPhone a few months ago. The SFPD has requested the permission of Cava 22's owners to review the bar’s surveillance footage, and it will most probably be an internal police probe that will look into how officers helped Apple in looking for the missing handset.

According to Lt. Troy Dangerfield, a spokesman for SFPD, he does not seem to be in the loop since he was not aware that investigators had already gone to the bar, and neither did he know that they were looking for the videos. As Apple did not yet file a police report, Troy is rather confident that no criminal investigation connected to the missing device is being made.

The conclusion by Troy? This is most probably part of the internal review launched this month by department officials, in order to probe just how the police are able to help Apple look for the missing phone. When contacted, Apple remained mum.

Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata: “Absolutely not” to smartphone games

Whether handheld gaming console companies like Nintendo or Sony want to admit it or not, smartphones and tablets are starting to become new platforms for playing games. Games such as Infinity Blade and Rage are good examples of how smartphone/tablet games can feature rich and complex graphics as well, although in terms of depth of gameplay, handheld consoles still take the cake on that one. With games like Angry Birds selling hundreds of million, it’s not surprising that Nintendo investors were pressuring the company to start creating games for smartphones and tablets.Whatever their reasoning (we’ll never know), Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata said in an interview with Nikkei said: “This is absolutely not under consideration.”

“If we did this, Nintendo would cease to be Nintendo. Having a hardware development team in-house is a major strength. It’s the duty of management to make use of those strengths. It’s probably the correct decision in the sense that the moment we started to release games on smartphones we’d make profits. However, I believe my responsibility is not to short term profits, but to Nintendo’s mid and long term competitive strength.”

While there is without doubt that there are still legions of handheld console fans out there, sales on the Nintendo 3DS have not be favorable, and it even caused Nintendo to start slashing prices drastically in order to “create momentum for the Nintendo 3DS and accelerate its market penetration toward the year-end sales season.” This is a stance that’s probably familiar to Nokia pre-Windows Phone 7, so here’s hoping that Nintendo won’t be heading down that path.
