Before the iPhone 4S was officially announced, there were several rumors circulating that the iPhone 4S would come with 512MB of RAM. Later on there were reports that it would instead feature 1GB of RAM. Neither was really shocking, although some were hoping it would be the latter, especially since it would only be natural for Apple to offer as much RAM as their competitors (i.e. Samsung’s Galaxy S2).
As it turns out, thanks to the folks at iFixit, who at this point in time are still dissecting the iPhone 4S, it has been revealed that Apple’s latest (and greatest?) iPhone is sporting 512MB of RAM. This was gleaned from the part number inscribed on the A5 chip which essentially indicates that the device has 512MB of RAM, and whose part was sourced from none other than Samsung.
With Apple’s legal woes with Samsung getting from bad to worse, and with rumors that suggest Apple might be seeking to move away from Samsung as a component manufacturer, could it be possible that this is the last time we will be seeing Samsung’s components inside an Apple product?
