Literature - An Overview

Literature is one of the greatest creations of mankind. It has always shown the right path to mankind. It flights without any prejudices crossing the boundaries of nations and continents. It may be created under the fences of a nation but it represents the universality. It soothes without any discrimination, the very soul of its seeker. It deals with basic human instincts and values which can be found in every nation. Literature is blend of both joys and sorrows but the delight we get from going through it is always divine.

Every nation has its own literature which is rooted in its soil. Without root it is not possible to imagine literature. As a plant requires land, air, manure to grow the same way literature requires the culture, society, and its values-based culture. The rich culture always produces rich literature. As far as the values are concerned, they may be in any forms but they get depiction in literature. A great literature always illuminates the doomed soul and shows the right path to the society. It shows what is good and what is bad; what is to imitate and what is to disregard.

Literature expresses emotions, ideas and of course ideals. Although man has invented great devices both constructive and destructive but the invention or creation of literature never creates fear. It always treats human with kindness and compassion.

Literature provides delight and shows what is dark and what is light. It treats in a friendly manner even to its foe. It persuades in a very pleasing manner as a mother persuades to her children.

Literature is eyes and ears of the nation. It mirrors how the things are. Not only it depicts what is, but it also creates a vision that is how the things should be.

Literature may be created in the form of poetry, drama, novel or essay but the ultimate objective of any great literature is to reveal the truth in its very natural form. It may be in any form but it always seeks for truth. If sometimes we come across with gloominess while reading, it is always momentary and does not affect its eternity and consequently provide our mind a certain kind of pleasure.
