Video games that get translated to movies usually suck (the movies, not the game). Take Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Double Dragon and Mario Bros. for example – the movie versions of those are flops at the box office, so hopefully the upcoming Halo movie will not follow in the footsteps of Doom should it make its way to the silver screens.

According to French site Halo.fr, a press release concerning the book “Halo: Cryptum” by Greg Bear, did mention a film adaptation of the popular game franchise with a probable theaterical release date of 2012. The release reads, “A film adaptation is set in 2012. It will be conducted jointly by two heavyweights of American cinema: Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks.”

With names such as Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks behind this production, chances are pretty good everything is going turn out hunky dory – Spielberg hardly churns out turkeys from what I know. Hopefully the Halo movie will be a reality, right Halo fans?
