Simple mathematics deduce that this NASA-approved electric airplane that you see above will travel at speeds of up to 100mph – after all, how else did it cover 200 miles in two hours? While electric airplanes are not new, this one is clearly a triumph in flight efficiency as well as battery life, being able to sustain a 200 mile flight using nothing but electricity alone.
In fact, when you convert the amount of electricity used, it is roughly equal to that of 2 gallons of gas – or less. From electric cars to electric bikes and now electric planes, I suspect a jet-sized version is still very far from reality as there are nigh insurmountable engineering challenges at the moment before such a dream is rolled out. Enjoy the video of this plane right after the jump.
