I would go so far on a limb to claim that anyone who has stumbled upon or discovered the cure for AIDS, the dreaded global epidemic, would be a very, very rich man – or company most likely. Well, who would have thought that in the end, it is not some sort of synthetic drug that will open the door to an AIDS cure, but rather, a glow-in-the-dark kitten or cat?

Yes sir, these specially bred cats hail from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where they are resistant to feline AIDS. Not only that, they will glow in an unearthly green under UV light, and if studied correctly alongside making the relevant future discoveries, who are we to say that we won’t discover the cure for AIDS?

Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) results in AIDS in cats just like how the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) affects humans, by getting rid of infection-fighting T-cells. To solve the feline version of the mystery might just allow us to figure out how to isolate human versions of key proteins that prevent virus invasions – especially the HIV virus.

Does this mean we can single out those who are immune to AIDS in the future by simply pointing some UV rays in their direction, where they too, will glow in the dark?
