There are so many conflicting rumors and reports on how the iPhone 5 is going to look like, that it’s starting to get difficult to sort out somewhat credible reports from the outright rumors. As it stands (and a quick recap), the rumors are now saying that the next-generation iPhone will either resemble the iPhone 4 with some slight changes in design, or it will be a completely redesigned phone.

New iPhone 5 cases have surfaced from China by Shenzhen L&Y Technology, and based on the design it seems that the company believes that the next-generation iPhone will look similar to the iPhone 4 with slight modifications. As opposed to the iPhone 4 which featured sharp and straight edges, the case design suggests that the next iPhone will be taking a leaf out of the iPad 2’s book with a curved back design with volume buttons that are reminiscent of the iPhone 3GS. The mute switch has also appeared to have been moved to the right side of the phone.

Case manufacturers stand to benefit greatly if they can produce an iPhone case before the product actually hits the shelves. This is due to the limited availability of cases at the start of the next iPhone’s life cycle, giving manufacturers an edge if they get a case out early. This has resulted in prosecutions in the past as a Foxconn worker allegedly leaked the specifications for an Apple product to a case manufacturer.

Naturally we can’t vouch for how legit this case design is, but we’re guessing that manufacturing these cases do not come cheap, so either these companies know something we don’t or they are basing their specifications on the internet.
