After wearing out the 4G tag on its HSPA+ devices (which should be called 3.5G), AT&T can finally claim to have a 4G network starting this weekend. At a financial conference today, AT&T announced that it’ll be offering its 4G LTE service starting this Sunday, September 18th. The service will initially be available in five markets: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, before it continues rolling out to the rest of the US.
While there aren’t any smartphones to take advantage of the LTE network yet, users can purchase wireless hotspots, modems and one tablet (the HTC Jetstream) to take advantage of the high-speed data connection. No word on when we’ll see the first phones, but it shouldn’t be too long now. Anybody planning to subscribe to AT&T’s LTE network?
