One thing about teens getting their driver’s license for the first time – they might think life is a video game and put the pedal to the metal, resulting in a speeding ticket at best alongside irked parents. Well, Ford might have something that parents would definitely approve of – that is, the Ford MyKey system that will be able to limit a vehicle’s top speed (a Ford, obviously) to just 80mph, while making sure that seatbelts are worn at all times, while the green driver behind the wheel will be prevented from disabling any safety features in the car.

To prevent parents from bailing out their kids from a tight spot, the MyKey system will also deliver an earlier-than-normal low-fuel warning while limiting the volume on the car audio system to just 44% – which some parents might think is still way too loud with their teen’s favorite death metal band in play. Heck, even speed alert chimes can be programmed to beep at 45, 55 or 65mph marks.

This system has proved to be a reasonable success Stateside, and the motor giant is expected to deliver the same system to the UK and Europe in 2012 – fingers crossed, they will do well there too.
