We have the world’s smallest camera and a phone that has made it into the Guinness World Records as being the world’s toughest phone, so let’s add on to that ever-growing “world’s” list with Japan’s Willcom WX03A handset, which is reportedly among one of the world’s lightest and smallest phones to date.

The WX03A is compliant with Willcom’s PHS standard, and for those unfamiliar, PHS or Personal Handy-phone System is a mobile network system that was developed by Japan in 1989 and provided a simpler method of implementation compared to GSM. It has also been widely used by Asian countries such as Japan, China and Taiwan. At the moment it appears that within Japan, Willcom is the only carrier left supporting the system.

The handset measures 70mm x 32mm x 10.5mm and weighs only 40g, and as you can see in the photo above, it’s about the size of a box of mints! It features a 1” OLED display with your standard, 10-key dialpad. It can be charged via a micro USB port and will come with a battery that offers 2 hours of talk time or 300 hours of standby.

Willcom expects to start distributing the WX03A come December, but don’t expect for it to hit the US market and we’re guessing that it being a PHS device has something to do with reasons why.
