After simplifying multimedia sharing for desktops and laptops, Cloud Engines is introducing Pogoplug Mobile, an incarnation of Pogoplug for smartphone and tablets. Pogoplug Mobile works on the same principle as its older sibbling: it’s basically an easy to use web server to which you attach a USB drive with whatever capacity you want. Once setup, it can serve content over the network via a nice user interface.
The Pogoplug Mobile user interface has been optimized for touch devices of all sizes, which is why it is different from the desktop version, which is build for classic computers. However, Pogoplug Mobile comes with a twist: for Android devices, there is an automated backup process that copies photos and movies over WiFi. Of course, Pogoplug Mobile also works with iOS when it comes to streaming multimedia content like photos, music or movies.
Like all Pogoplug devices, Pogoplug Mobile can be managed and accessed from a computer via the Pogoplug desktop software, or via my.pogoplug.com. This device will be available in October 2011 for $79.99 (MSRP). The Pogoplug app for Android and iOS is free. www.pogoplug.com/mobile
