Toshiba has just announced that its upcoming glasses-free 3D TV will be available outside of Japan. The Japanese electronics manufacturer has released glasses-free 3D TVs before, but this will be its first foray out of the local market. Called the ZL2, it will pack face tracking, Resolution+, Auto Calibration, 2D to 3D conversion, and Smart TV features including Toshiba Places. What makes the ZL2 special is that unlike most glasses-free 3D displays – it will support multiple viewers at once. Toshiba claims that there are up to nine different viewing positions which viewers can use to experience the 3D effect.

No technical specs stating how and why it will support 9 viewers have been released, but all will probably be revealed in due time. The ZL2 will have a 55” screen with a quadHD resolution of 3840 x 2160. It will have WiFi support, DLNA, Toshiba’s Cevo engine, built-in Freeview HD, and support for USB hard drive video recording. A remote control app for iPhone users will also be released.

The ZL2 will be available in Q4 2011 and even though no prices have been mentioned, we’re pretty sure it’s not going to be cheap.
