Sales Presentation Training on How to Increase Sales Using Features and Benefits Effectively

When I'm presenting sales presentation training I'm amazed at how many people can't use features and benefits effectively. With sales training to understand real features and benefits they can quickly see how to increase sales and make more money.  If you are one of the people that don't understand how to use features and benefits, then that's great news. It's great because you can expect a big increase in your results when you add this sales presentation training to your sales skills. It gets to the very core of why people buy, and that they want the benefits of the product or service, not the features.

Definition of Features and Benefits   So let's start with a working definition of both features and benefits: A Feature is what the product or service does, how it works, what it looks like, the mechanics of it. A Benefit is what the features do for the customer. A feature of this sales presentation training is the information it will give you to add to your sales skills. A benefit of that feature is the extra income you can earn as a result of the additional sales you will close. Every feature can have lots of benefits. Many features can have the same benefits. The information you'll find on this page is a feature. The benefits are endless and they all result in you gaining something.

How to increase sales using features and benefits   At some point in your sales process you ask the customer some questions to establish what they want. These wants are usually expressed by the customers as benefits. Saving money, feeling safe, and looking good, are all examples of benefits. None of these are features. In your sales presentation your aim is to present a sales proposal that gives the customer what they want. What they want are the benefits, not the features. The features are just the tools that supply the benefits.   If a customer wants a car that is cheap to run they don't want a boring sales presentation on the technical features of the engine and its fuel consumption. They want a presentation on the benefits, and in this example that is how it saves them dollars. Yes, you will include some features of the fuel economy system in your sales presentation, but only the few that are directly related to the main sales benefit that you are presenting. Focus on the benefit of cost effective motoring and only use the features of the car to support how the benefit is delivered.   This sales training can be just a simple change of your viewpoint on features and benefits. Many sales people are experts on the features of their product, and we all like talking about topics we are experts on. The benefits customers want can be unique to each individual and not as easy for sales people to talk about. This is where sales presentation training is important. To learn how to increase sales with a great presentation you must learn how to focus on the benefits not the features.

A quick sales presentation training technique   Try this quick sales presentation training technique and see if you understand the relationship between the buyer's needs, the product features, and the sales benefits.   Choose a common need or want that your customers express when you are selling to them. Now select the feature or features of your product that can give them that what they want. When I'm giving sales presentation training it's at this point that the delegates start presenting. Don't, you will only be presenting features and that's not what the buyer wants to hear. Add another link to the chain and now select the benefits of those features that will match the buyer's needs and wants. This is how to increase sales when presenting.   It may sound something like this: You said; saving money, compared to what you currently pay out for fuel each month, was important to you. (Customer want) This car has the latest fuel saving technology that will give you 60 miles to the gallon around town. (Feature) That means you will fill up once every ten days instead of once a week as you currently do. So let's look at what you'll save over a typical year. (Benefit)   Add some agreement gaining at the right places and you've got the bases of a great sales presentation, with effective use of sales training on features and benefits. Sales presentation training is all about showing the customer a sales proposal with benefits that match their wants.  It's an important part of your selling process, and investing in more of these sales skills is how to increase sales and make more money.

Benefits of Receiving a Grant For Writing Children's Literature

I recently receive a "Jackpot Grant" from the Nevada Arts Council to attend a writing workshop presented by the Society of Children's Bookwriters and Illustrators. Having attended the conference, I realized that there were benefits, to myself and the community. In this article, I'll briefly recap some of those benefits. I'll go over some of the objectives that I submitted when I applied for the grant.

Objective 1: Improve Writing Skills and Open Creative Horizons

I attended several workshops run by Bruce Coville, who writes middle-grade fantasy novels. As a result,  I started work on a series of books that are primarily aimed at boys, with a cross over appeal to girls.
I discussed a picture book on potty training, and created a draft of it. The manuscript has been well received on the Society of Children's Bookwriters and Illustrator's Manuscript Exchange discussion forum. I am refining it, and will soon submit it for publication.

Objective 2: Establishing Networking Contacts for future projects.

I met a number of illustrators, and have established contacts with them. These may lead to future collaborations, or at least to preferred introductions to publishers. (It is possible that a well-established illustrator will suggest a manuscript that they will enjoy illustrating to a publisher.)
I met a number of writers who may be interested in writing teacher's guides to accompany my existing books.
I listened to presentations by various editors and submitted a manuscript for a children's book to a major publisher. If they do not like the manuscript, I'm confident that another publisher will like it.

Objective 3: Provide a long-term benefit for the Nevada Arts Council and for children who reside in Nevada.

I have begun a publicity campaign that will help children become more literate by using the book and CD, which contains several different languages. Since the Nevada Arts Council paid for my travel expenses to the SCBWI workshop, I will have some available to provide free copies of the book to libraries in Nevada, and fully intend to make donations. Also, the book will be made available to literacy programs.
The prestige associated with receiving a grant from the Nevada Arts Council is making it more attractive for a teacher who home schooled her child to evaluate whether she is interested in bring the book/CD/website to the attention of other home-schooling parents.
One of the illustrators that I met is enthusiastic about preparing a teacher's curriculum for my existing books.
To build self esteem in children I will launch an internet radio show where children can discuss my books and CDs with their teachers, parents and other children. I have already implemented a service that displays pictures that children draw and a service that allows them to make digital tape recordings of stories.

If you're a writer, I encourage you to apply for grants.  You may be surprised at the benefits that you, and others, receive from the process.

The Benefits of Literature-Based Homeschooling

They say that Abraham Lincoln was a self-taught man. He read through the entire Bible and any other books he could get his hands on. This speaks volumes about the importance of reading. If you could do nothing else for your child, educationally-speaking, it should be to develop a strong, voracious reader.

Once a child has mastered reading and is continually challenged with diverse and increasingly difficult selections, he can successfully educate himself about almost anything simply through reading. What an amazing concept - reading teaches your child how to teach himself! Producing this type of a reader takes some careful planning however. I have found that modern literature that is aimed at children is quite often "dumbed-down" and assumes that we shouldn't tax our children's brains too much - what a silly notion! Challenging our children to think hard while reading is a good thing. It exercises the mind, broadens ones vocabulary and improves their writing and communication skills.

Tips on Forming a Strong Reader

Limit television, computer and video game time (we have a weekends only rule in our house, for instance). I cannot stress enough how important this is. Not only will your child choose video or TV over reading, because they are instant gratification and require no serious thinking, but too much electronic entertainment, especially in a developing brain, is proven to be detrimental to developing good reading skills. Give your child a mix of books to read at different reading levels. If all of the books you give your child are very challenging, he may get too frustrated and not want to read at all. It is a good idea to give your child a quality book that is comfortable at his reading level and then the next book should be one level up from there, enough to challenge him a bit.

Alternate and mix things up a bit in this fashion while gradually advancing the overall difficulty level. Develop a list of books that you know are good quality literature on the subjects you are wanting to cover with your child and don't forget to throw some in some just for fun reading as well, and then let your child choose the books from this list to make up his reading syllabus for the year. It will give your child a sense of control instead of "mom's making me read this."

Putting it all together

If you decide to make your homeschooling program literature-based,here are some good places to look for planning inspiration.

Sonlight Curriculum: I have never purchased a curriculum package from them but they are a great resource for helping choose books. Browse through their selections by grade level to get ideas
Beautiful Feet: They provide literature-based unit studies.

Books Children Love by Elizabeth Wilson: This reference gives a listing of books divided by subject (historical fiction, fantasy, literature, etc.) and also reading level.

I also like to use Amazon.com as it has good descriptions of books and helpful recommendations of other books that might interest you. Take the time to form a competent, strong reader and your child will easily be tackling Shakespeare, Herman Melville and G.K. Chesterton in their highschool years and thanking you for it.
