Selling in a Tough Economy - Strategies For Sales Managers

Which Salespeople will Thrive and Who will Dive as the Going gets Tough?

Selling in a tough economy will separate those salespeople that "can" and those that "can't".

The fact is, it doesn't really take a great a salesperson to achieve quota in times of double digit market returns. But what should you as a sales leader do when the economy starts to hit the brakes? How do you ensure your sales team achieves their sales targets when the market is flat?

How do you as the sales leader plan to achieve your sales budget when there is so much indecision and fear in the market?

Think about it, do you really know how each of your salespeople are going perform in these troubled times?

Here's a method to most accurately determine how the people in your sales team are likely to perform when the going gets tough.

Step 1:

Review the actual sales of each of your people over the past two sales quarters.
Separate their sales into three camps. Camp one should include those sales where your salespeople actually had to "create the sale." The created sale is one where the salesperson actually developed the sales from start to finish. These are the sales which your company would not have received but for the efforts, creativity and persuasion of the salesperson.
The second camp of sales will include those that on close scrutiny show that not that much effort was required to bring them home. These are the "walk up starts, the easy ones, the lucky ones, the one's where the salesperson happened to be at the right place at the right time, with the right offer.
The third group is comprised of those sales that fall somewhere in-between camp one and two. These are those sales that whist some effort was required to make the sale; there were a number of factors that fell easily into place helping to bring the sale home.

Step 2:

Now simply analyse the percentages. Looking at each individual salesperson determine:

What percent of their sales come from camps one and three? This total will be your best indication of how your salespeople will perform in a slow market.
Now review camp two. During tough economic times the easy sales found in camp two will tend to dry up and you will be relying on those sales your team actually create to meet your team sales target.

When you apply this assessment to each individual within your sales team, you will very quickly work out who amongst the team will be likely to thrive and who will die as sales opportunities shrink.

Sales Organization Strategies

Sales Organization Strategies It was 3000 BC. Tribal club seller Og ran into stone knife salesperson Ur down at the local watering hole. After the mandatory exchange of grunts and dinosaur claws, talk turned to the best way to set up a sales group. Five thousand years later, CEOs are still debating. Everyone has an opinion, very few people get to start off with a clean slate, and often things "just happen" rather than result as part of a long term strategy.

Companies struggle with the right strategy for their sales department. The internet, cell phones, instant connectivity, and massive blasts of technology change the landscape - yet, the strong personalities within the sales organization resist change or (at best) put their own personal spin on the issue.

Let's explore the pluses and minuses of the most common of business-to-business sales organizations. Warning - consultants are famous for providing just the right answer, but in this equation "one size does not fit all". The answer lies in understanding your position and migrating to the best future.

For the next four minutes - let's assume there are six sales organizational strategies:

Geography based
Technology or industry segmentation based
Sales built around individual skills
Account assignment driven territories
Hybrid Organizations with Specialists
Matrix sales organization

Geography based We all know the story of the traveling salesman - armed with an order book, pencil, and a pair of freshly shined shoes - these guys worked a territorial route. (If it's Tuesday, this must be Pittsburg.) Last week, a new salesperson shared, "My dad worked a territory. And, I am proud to say, I was the first woman in our company to be given a territory of her own."

Pluses She felt good because in her mind - she owned something. Ownership is a key strength of a geography based organization. A new business opens and there is no question as to who should begin prospecting. Referrals flow more naturally. Travel can be minimized (with the right planning). If distribution or reps are used - territories are a natural extension of the planning process.

Minuses Not all territories are created equal and this creates issues with metrics of sales people and relative skills. Personality issues or conflicts between key customers and sales people fester over time. Managers face issues "Gerrymandering" of sales territories and border squabbles between sales people.

Technology / industry segmentation basedDomain knowledge developed as a buzz word in the later 1990's. Sales organizations who pursue value-add or consultative sales strategies find industry based selling to be a natural consideration. The salesperson targets in on a single industry or technology segment - they become part of the industry, attend association meetings, and subscribe to the trade publications of their segment - they speak the jargon of their chosen industry. In short they become their customer (almost).

Pluses Industry segmentation in the sales force provides a vehicle for matching product knowledge to customer base. Market segmentation allows customer-centric tuning of the entire sales process; sales person skills, customer support structure, marketing style, and value proposition adapt to the buying preferences of each segment. Because communications and prospect definition is easier, companies with strong marketing organizations love segmentation.

Minuses Travel and logistics overlap add to the inherent costs of an industry segmentation approach. Sales Managers find it difficult to balance out sales responsibilities in small sales teams. Shifting accounts to even work load or cover in case of health or injury issues grows more difficult. Expansion plans may require multiple paths of thought.

Organized by skill factor Hunters and farmers - my first boss broke sales people into two categories. Hunters found accounts easily. Breaking down barriers, kicking the competition, cold calling, and turning a chance meeting into new business was their life - they lived for "the thrill of the hunt". Once established in the account; they lost interest and their performance began to wane. Farmers feel uncomfortable with new people - they almost never find a new account. But once in an account, they provided customer service like there was "no tomorrow". They "farmed" the account for every available dollar. The Hunter-Farmer strategy is but one of many that use human skill factor to grow business - the best of each of these involves careful consideration of unique talents by a very perceptive sales manager.

Pluses Skill factor based organizations get strong grades for maximizing the impact of a team. Companies who orient on individual strengths tend to be more progressive in other areas of their management style. The Gallup Organization interviewed 80,000 managers in creating the book "First, Break all the Rules" - their findings provide additional insight to other valued derived from this management style (i.e. decreased turnover, happier employees, and long term skill growth).

Minuses Only an experienced and skilled manager can discover and capitalize on the individual skill sets of a diverse team. Organizations scattered over multiple locations may find it difficult to "drill into" the specific and individual strengths of a large number of sales people.

Account assignment driven Convenience rather than a strategy; experts argue this is the strategy of no-strategy. It works this way - since I want you to call on John Deere in Illinois and Iowa - I am going to give you everything else in the Midwest.

Pluses This provides for coverage in a pinch.

Minuses Rarely do the "cover the rest too" accounts grow to their potential.

Hybrid territory mixes - with Specialists Companies pressed between the challenges of developing marketshare over a large geography and providing domain skills to advanced customers are moving to this model. This strategy combines geography with segmentation via specialists. Specialists provide the marketing attention and domain knowledge while geography based sales people handle relationships and logistics. Industrial distribution (Electrical, Power Transmission, Fluid Power, Pipe Valve and Fittings, and Mill Supply Distributors) has moved increasingly to this model. Technology based companies - Microsoft, Dell, Cisco, and others have incorporated Specialists over the top of a geography based sales force.

Pluses Multiple relationships back to the selling company - Buck Rodgers in his book "The IBM Way" first described the value of multiple connections to the customer's organization. Specialists "over the top of" territory based sales people provide a great mix.

Minuses When people work together on the same task, roles must be well defined and orchestrated. The plain truth is very few organizations take the time to define their sales process. Issues with compensation, commission squabbles, and inconsistent coverage drive dissatisfaction with this process.

Matrix sales organization Imagine multiple sales organizations working the same territory. Each has its own organizational structure, goals, objectives, and measures of success - yet they work together. Capitol equipment sales and MRO products sold from the same company come to mind as a place for matrix sales.

Pluses A matrix organization allows use of individual sales talents and provides (to a limited extent) the power of segmentation. Many larger companies have no option but to establish a matrix organization.

Minuses Duplicate management teams and duplicate sales logistics most notably come to mind. Without planning and a long term strategy this organization can become a management tar baby.

Which should we use? This article was not developed to provide you with a road map to selecting sales organizations - instead, it was developed to kick off your own thought process.

Colonel John Boyd, the father of American Air-Fighter Strategy, developed a strategy called the OODA loop - Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act (then repeat the process). You observe your sales team daily. Hopefully with this article you will be able to Orient yourself to the other strategies that surround you. Decide - is there a better way? What are the pluses and minuses to your organization? Act - plan a strategy.

A parting thought Sales people are a strange lot. I know - I have earned my keep in a selling capacity since I was just a boy. I don't believe in stereotypes but most sales people by nature fear changes in structure. Think change by process - not change by decree. I favor migration paths that move culture and people over the course of several years. Define North Star direction, bring in training and trainers and share articles demonstrating your objective. In short, create your change from the bottom up.

Teaching Strategies For Developing World Literature Appreciation

There are many wonderful teaching strategies educators can use to cultivate and develop an appreciation of world literature within their students. Initially, developing an appreciation for world literature in high school students requires that teachers select reading material with themes that are relevant to the modern era in which we live.

Interest and appreciation for the book To Kill A Mockingbird for example could be generated by having a brief class discussion on race relations. The teacher and students could collaborate to create a detailed timeline of 15 to 20 social, cultural, and political events that occurred in the 1930s. The activity would familiarize students with the attitudes and issues of the Depression era in the deep South, while simultaneously teaching students how African-Americans overcame such prejudicial attitudes.

Following the class discussion on race relations, teachers could ask students to keep reading journals and document their reactions to the book as they read it. Reading journals allow students to enjoy literature and make remarks about points of interest as they come to them during the reading.

Next teachers can assign students free writing exercises in which they can respond to elements of the story, as well as prompt driven responses. Important elements of the story, aspects crucial to the theme, and anything of unique interest to a student should be encouraged to be reflected upon during the reading. The story's main conflict, it's level of importance, and possible solutions are all worthy topics for students to evaluate and discuss.

Evaluations containing students' assertions and assumptions should cite supportive textual evidence. This will clearly demonstrate students' mental comprehension processes.

Worthy of recognition in Harper Lee's novel To Kill A Mockingbird is the author's observations of her family and neighbors. The events which occurred in her hometown in 1936, made a profound impression upon the ten-year-old Scout. The issues of rape, race relations, gender bias, and class conflict all were found throughout the text. These issues are seemingly universal in nature and therefore effect every generation. The primary themes of racial injustice and the destruction of innocence are both disheartening and enlightening. These themes provide students with a sufficient amount to think about, when posed in the form of meaningful and probing questions.

The noble lessons within the novel emphasizing tolerance and decrying prejudice are instructional for students, while giving them much to discuss and write about.

The character Atticus stated, "You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them." This heartfelt instruction to his children awakened compassion in them to not be so quick to prematurely judge a man, nor a matter. Teachers can ask students when if ever they prematurely judged a person or situation. Students should also be asked how they remedied the wrong and made it right.

Jem, Scout, and Dil all attended the court hearing of Tom Robinson, a negro gentleman who had been falsely accused. As a sign of solidarity and racial unity, the children sat upstairs in the courthouse with the black Pastor and folks. Questions about the role of each character, what their temperament portrayed and revealed, along with the possibility of what that person might be doing today all are excellent and thought provoking questions for students.

Tying the literature together with modern day events will also enable the students to apply what they are learning. A discussion about what Atticus would have said and done had he been alive in our day would be a stimulating conversation for students.

Literature Strategies

Technology in every corner, computers in every room... are we being overrun by electronics to the neglect of pure literature experience?  Literature is probably the most powerful teaching tool known to man. Learning has taken place around the written word for centuries.  It is the core of knowledge, and every homeschool needs to take reading and literature studies seriously.

What do you do to meet your homeschool literature needs? Many homeschooling families take advantage of our public library system and supplement their reading needs from exhaustive public library resources. Libraries almost always have the classics... which is a great place to start any literature study. Not to mention that the library is a great alternative to purchasing expensive books.

Other families use the internet extensively for research, and for augmenting their reading with literature based resources.  These resources can take many different forms such as: literature unit studies, literature based word lists, color pages,  literature connected recipes, and on and on the list could go. Whichever method you use, the importance of literature in a solid education is fundamental. Research has proven time and again that the more we read the more we learn.

Reading is the key cornerstone to all education. To learn science, we must read. To learn social studies, we must read.  To understand mathematics, we must read. In every scenario, reading is the key.  This is the fundamental skill prerequisite that every person must attain to continue with their education.  Yet, learning to read does not require any expensive gadgets, electricity, or technology.  Simply the written word.

Social Marketing Strategies to Make Facebook a Contact Cash Machine

Get clients and like-minded individuals friending you in the masses on Facebook.

Social marketing strategies via Facebook are the wave of the future for marketing on the web to your niche. The best way to attract clients and like-minded individuals on Facebook is to create a self explanatory profile using keywords, which explain what you do and what you have to offer. First impressions are so important, people know if they are interested or not in seconds and with this article you always will be attracting like-minded individuals and clients that know who you are and what you offer.

Facebook profile picture, text box and website options are the first impression with these step by step methods clients and like-minded individuals never leave guessing. Every web master knows content is king and the profiles with 2000+ friends and above always have a extensive profiles on Facebook. This is the best way to set up your Facebook profile to look like a combination of a Business card, resume' and personal biography all in the Information page. This step by step process will make you look like an interesting person that is an expert in your field attracting clients and like-minded individuals through social marketing strategies on Facebook.

1. Identify yourself on your profile picture on Facebook like a business card. The profile picture is the picture that you show to the world on Facebook and represent you as an expert. "Do" use a professional picture of a suit or a coat (business attire). "Don't" use a picture of your kid or a cartoon because this will not identify the Facebook profile. (HOT TIP) if you're a man, show a picture with a female like your wife, girlfriend or just a female friend this will show you're not on Facebook to pick up on girls, double the friend ad with a couple picture.

2. Use the text box (this is under your picture on your profile page) to explain what you do and what you are looking for. This will be seen when people add you, so if you're a web site builder for real estate you could say. (Example) I build custom websites for Real Estate Investors and Agents starting at $199 check my site out for free advice Your-website-here. Also looking for wholesale properties under 60 cents nationwide. So before they even request to add you as a friend they will know you're a website designer for real estate industry and an investor - "PERFECT". This will make you have a group of friends in your industry or your clients. (HOT TIP) you can use 236 letters-symbols in the text box and spaces don't count. Use spacing so people can read at a glance (less is more).

3. For maximum social marketing exposure, Show all your websites, twitter accounts, linked in, YouTube channels etc. on your profile page on Facebook for social marketing exposure. I see more websites never seen because they just don't know how to show them and it's easy as 2 clicks. Click info box on your profile page next to the wall box find the area that says CONTACT INFORMATION click edit. Add all web and social marketing sites in the WEBSITE box like this:

Your Blog

Your Business Website

Your Linked In

your-twitter-name-here

youtube.com/user/your channel

your facebook fan page

Then just click save. (HOT TIP) This is where everyone misses out go to the information box on the left of the profile page above were your friends pictures are shown click the pencil on the top right of the INFORMATION box and check the website box then your website will appear. (HOT TIP) use as many as you have because everyone will have a preference to follow like some love twitter and some love YouTube etc so give them an option.

4.Social Marketing is best when you show you're a real person instead of a stiff business man, web 2.0 is all about the social. So in the INFO BOX get extensive and show your interest from books, hobbies to education this gives options for commonalities with new friends, we do businesses with people we like and know. If you open your Facebook Info Box it would be easy to go back and forth line by line so you don't miss anything. Remember, the information you enter in this section is used as keywords when people do searches on Facebook.

* Basic Information

a. Sex: male or female (they better know by the picture - no business logo for your picture)

b. Birthday: You only have to show the day not year in the options

c. Home Town: Great to see where you came from

d. Current City: Where you live now

e. Relationship Status: Looking For: always check networking, leave dating out of your business if you're single then best to leave it blank. If your married great put it in, it shows stability. I also don't add (my family) because it's too personal. (HOT TIP) I would recommend if your spouse or brother was your partner in business then show them, by entering a name they will give you the option to add from your friends that are in your Facebook and this will give a link on the profile page to your partner's Facebook profile.

f. Politics and Religion: I leave blank just because you can close some doors with certain views but if you feel compelled to put yours in then great. Especially fill it in if your niche is religion or politics because searches on Facebook will find you.

*Personal Information

a. Activities: Put all your activities in using the drop down menu when you have an option, this will allow all Facebook members to find you searching the activities, the same goes for all the boxes in the personal info.

b. Interest: This is a great area to state every business interest; they will be searched on Facebook for example: Home Loans, Mortgage Reduction Programs if an individual wants to search for these then they should be found on the on Facebook and they will add you as a friend because they have commonalities or they are interested in the subject.

c. Favorite Music: Show what you like but you might be searched and added as a fan of a group and that might not be your area of expertise you want to attract, so limit entries.

d. Favorite TV Shows: You can get category specific like if you're an investor maybe "Flip that House".

e. Favorite Movies: I just put generalities like comedies, action or romance. Specifics keep you in searches on Facebook because if you put Star Trek then you might have Trekkies finding you, so unless you're running Trekkie conventions or have Spock ears on now and then leave it out.

f. Favorite Books: This is a great opportunity to show your niche with books in your subject like "Rich Dad Poor Dad" if you're an investor.

g. Favorite Quotations: Use some good one's in your field if you need some help, (HOT TIP) Search Google "quotations in your niche".

h. About Me: This is the best place to tell all about yourself and your passion for your niche. Spend some good time putting together a great paragraph and then let someone who knows you edit it for you. This may be uncomfortable, but it is very effective. Use spaces if you have more then 2 sentences because it's easier to read, because Facebook text is in small writing.

*Contact Information

a. Emails: I use a secondary email, because I attract friends that are interested in what I do, I never have been spammed and have only had great emails with real inquiries (this is the power of social marketing strategies). Also Facebook has a security lock that doesn't let you paste and copy emails from the profile. Use the lock drag down to choose who see's the email, you can see this to the right; I recommend and use only friends.

b. IM Screen Name(s): I leave blank, I can chat right on Facebook and if I need to give one I can through an email.

c. Mobil: I use a second line and only get real calls from real clients "Cool" and use only friends on the setting.

d. Address: I leave blank but if you had a brick and mortar store front put it in.

e. Websites: Add Business sites, social Marketing like Twitter, Linked In, Your Personal Facebook Fan pages and Blogs.

*Education and Work

a. College: Add all your colleges your alumni will find you and do business with you and seldom will a rivalry college sway a customer.

b. High School: Add your school

c. Employer: This is sometimes the only way to find out what someone does on Facebook and this is why all that I showed you has painted a picture of who you are and what you do even before you get here. If you own your own business put it in or your employer.

d. Position: CEO Etc.

e. Time Period: When you started at or created the company

f. Location: The location especially if you have a store front

g. Description: Add everything your company does or you personally do also.

5. Groups and Pages - I will get extensive in future post (HOT TIP) so subscribe to mikeb360 the blog post will get thousands of niche clients and partners coming to you using my methods. But for now just add some groups and fan pages in your niche it will show your true interest.

In summary, setting up your Facebook profile is very important to get like-minded individuals and clients that you want to attract as well as keep away the ones that you are not going to add to your contacts on Facebook. Take time to go line for line and use this as a reference guide. In a future post I will show the power of the largest picture data base in the world on Facebook and how to make it work to your advantage and many more topics to optimize your Facebook Contact Cash Machine.

10 Top SEO Facebook Strategies

Facebook is actually more and more growing to be a "second home page" for organizations on the web. Facebook has recently developed a good number of innovative possibilities for Pages to get increased traffic with the tried and true ways of search engine optimization. Making use of important web optimization techniques in your Facebook Page can help to accomplish progressively more Facebook devotees. Search engine optimization reveals your Facebook Page to Facebook's total userbase. In fact, Facebook themselves has taken big steps to improve its own web optimization in current several weeks and months, creating opportunities for Page managers to gain immediately whilst making worth for Facebook while doing so.

Listed below are TEN SEO techniques and tactics every Facebook Page user will need to understand:

1. Decide on the best title for the Facebook Page - and don't ever change it

Choosing the right identity on your Facebook Page is crucial. For instance, if your name appears too spammy, people will probably be less likely to talk about it with their associates on their own page and more likely to conceal your updates from their Facebook feed. Secondly, don't give into the temptation to choose a completely common page title. Due to the fact Facebook's intention for Pages is the fact that they will legitimately characterize businesses, brand names, as well as stars, Facebook has recently been disabling updates for common Pages.

The bottom line: work with your corporation's true title as the name of the page. And when you choose your Page's name, don't alter it. Facebook makes use of your Page name in the title of the Page, and considering that Google dings webpages when their particular titles change, changing your Facebook Page's name can cost you SEO points.

2. Select the very best URL for your Facebook Page

Facebook recently released the flexibility to choose a title in your Facebook Page, just about the most necessary SEO opportunities on Facebook as of yet. Facebook wants Pages to legitimately stand for the identities of businesses, and brand names having commonly used titles have been suspended rights previously.

The soundest solution would be to decide on a username which authentically presents your online business or company. As soon as you select a Facebook username/URL for your Page, it cannot be altered. So, look for a username you are going to become at ease with and reassured in for the future. If you have a company that specializes in replica watches, make the URL something to do with replica watches.

3. Use the "About" box to place key phrase-thick content at the top of the Page

One critical SEO approach that needs to be utilized in your Facebook Page whenever achievable is inserting key phrase-thick content as close to the top of the Page as it can be. Since Facebook restricts exactly where Page managers can place substantial sections of textual content on the Wall of Facebook Pages, the "About" box basically shows the best location in the CSS structure of the page to incorporate custom content. You will find there's 250 character restriction, so choose your words and phrases sensibly.

4. Use the "Info" tab to add extra critical key phrases, content, and high precedence backlinks on your Page

Facebook creates an "Info" tab for each Facebook Page which has fields made up of important illustrative data about the Page. It's imperative that you complete all these fields, for the reason that they supply the opportunity to add keyword phrases, content, and hyperlinks that may increase the content material rating within your Facebook Page for many kinds of Google queries. The specific fields existing could differ based on the type you choose for your Page whenever you create it, so pick out the class which most effectively meets your business needs.

5. Develop "Static FBML" boxes and tabs to place lengthy content material plus more static backlinks on your Page

While chances to place substantial blocks of textual content on the default tab of the Facebook Page tend to be quite restricted, Facebook enables Page managers to set-up supplemental boxes or tabs which could carry any type of subject matter, including text, images, and hyperlinks. Adding content boxes or tabs to your Page could be a terrific way to supercharge the score of your Page.

6. Publish direct backlinks aimed at your website inside your Page's stream

Status updates offer a highly effective solution to place direct backlinks at the top of your respective Page. Since Google increases webpages which link to relevant internet sites - and penalizes pages which link to irrelevant web pages or add a great number of inbound links too suddenly - posting hyperlinks in status updates can be quite an effective and reliable approach to increase your Facebook Page.

You can find 2 methods to submit hyperlinks:

1. Including the URL within the text of the status update itself.

2. Using the "attach link" function.

7. Add pictures with captions, activities with descriptions, and a conversation discussion board

This just about goes without saying, yet it's crucial that you regularly be spreading useful subject matter on the Facebook Page, along with always making use of all offered illustrative fields on every single kind of content shared. When posting images, apply lengthy and key phrase-thick explanations.Use the resources Facebook gives to your entire gain.

8. Have inbound links for your Facebook Page from the internet through posting backlinks towards your Page on all your websites

Just like a good number of inbound links from high-authority web pages help improve PageRank for regular internet websites, acquiring inbound links towards your Facebook Page may improve its PR as well. You can accomplish this with text backlinks, but Facebook in addition has developed a badge which it induces Page managers to utilize.

9. Get intra-Facebook inbound links by simply receiving a lot more Facebook supporters

For the reason that Facebook places hyperlinks to Facebook Pages on Facebook users' profile pages, which might be accessible to search engines, the more fans you get, the more backlinks you will have to your own Page inside of Facebook. For Pages with thousands of supporters, the volume of backlinks will surely mount up.

10. Reinforce intra-Facebook linking by getting followers to review along with like content in your stream

Whenever supporters comment or like content in your Facebook Page's stream, Facebook links their name back to their own Facebook profile page. Subsequently, once the profile stubs of those supporters who've put up feedback and likes on your own Page are listed, Google will discover more reciprocal links between your Page and your Page's followers, which it will see to be a much better relationship. This results in a cycle of enhanced link weight from the listed profile page stubs to your Page.

Basic Facebook Marketing Strategies to Generate Endless Leads and Dominate

According to Alexa, Facebook is the second most popular website next to Google. I researched more and found that around 30% of the global internet subscribers visit Facebook every day. Facebook currently has 300 million subscribers and is growing rapidly. 45 Million updates are made on Facebook every day and world wide users spend around 8 billion minutes per day.

What does it mean to you as an internet marketer? It is a large gold mine. Isn't it? However, How are you going to position yourself uniquely and promote your business on Facebook considering the large volume of updates being posted on Facebook every day? How do you grasp the attention of the Facebook users? The purpose of this post is to make you aware of the basic Facebook marketing strategies and tools that you need to successfully generate leads and dominate.

Always remember Facebook is a social network and should not be used to pitch your business. Prosperity in your Facebook marketing is directly proportial to the number of solid relationships developed with fellow users. So, Lets gets started

Facebook Profile

- A picture is worth thousand words. Make sure to add a picture in your profile
- Fill in your past info such as schools went and make it public so that people can find you through search
- Fill in your interests and make it public so that fellow subscribers could relate to you
- Fill in all your websites such as a blog, Twitter, your capture pages etc on your profile. By default, only your primary website is displayed. I would highly recommend to display all your websites in your profile. Anyone visiting your profile page could click on your URLS and learn more about you

Add Friends

After creating a profile, do not wait for things to happen. Go ahead and find and add few friends a day every day. It is advised that you can add up to 25-30 friends everyday. Excessive adding of friends will result in removing your page by Facebook administrators.

Interact with friends through like and comment

Once you have added a few friends and see their content on your home page, start interacting with them by liking and commenting on their updates. Commenting on updates could have a viral effect. When you comment on an update, your comment will show up on the updater's wall and is visible to all his friends. So, it pays to make intelligent comments and get traffic back to your page. Also, feel free to share quotes, posts, and videos that had a positive impact on you. Key is to interact with Facebook friends as much as possible.

Facebook Photo Albums

Feel free to share your pictures and videos with your friends on Facebook. People would love to know more about you through pictures and videos. If you have been to a networking event and have taken pictures with the leaders and fellow networkers, share those pictures with stories about the events and see the traffic to your website increasing

Facebook Videos

If a picture is worth thousand words, how much is a video worth? In 2009, video marketing has been growing rapidly and is here to stay. Facebook allows you to either upload videos or shoot a video instantly. More you share the videos, better it is. Do share your videos about networking events, funny incidents, achievements and any other video that could have a positive influence on others. I use the video feature of Facebook in a couple of ways and am seeing phenomenal results:

1. I introduce myself to recently added friends. A short video describing who I am and appreciating for friendship
2. I use instant Facebook video recording option to wish birthdays to friends

Facebook Groups

Group positions you as a leader and displays the value you can provide to fellow networkers. Facebook users who join your group can be converted to prospects for your biz by using effective attraction marketing strategies. It pays to establish a group and providing value to the members of the group through emails, invitations to an event etc. I also use groups in Facebook to identify like minded people and to promote my posts.

Facebook Events

Facebook allows you to create a public event ( viewable to all members of Facebook) and provides you URL that can be used to communicate on other social networks like Twitter, MySpace etc. I send an event invitation via email to all my group members. Event feature keeps track of the users status (attending, not attending, may be) about the event. I see an increase in numbers for the event when I blast a reminder email to people who were not sure or were planning to attend.

Facebook Wall posts

Evey user in Facebook has a wall where he posts messages and moderates the comments made. If you are a core Facebook user, I am sure that you must be posting and promoting your content on your wall. However, It is worth much more to learn how to post your content effectively on walls of the members having a huge number of friends. It can be done by giving a lot of value that could be beneficial to the users visiting the page. Facebook will disable your account if they see you spamming. So, be cautious while using this approach.

Facebook Notes

Do you have a self hosted word press blog? If no, I would highly recommend you to start blogging and provide valuable content. Facebook notes is an awesome feature you can use to make your valuable blog content visible publicly to all members of Facebook. Also, there are applications that imports your blog content into the notes in an automated way. Isn't that cool?

This feature would increase your blog traffic tremendously and ultimately your sales if you are using the blog as central hub/nerve center as I mentioned in my Attraction Marketing Blueprint post.

Facebook Applications

I am not a big fan of applications on Facebook as I generate enough traffic using the resources mentioned above. However, there are couple of applications that I personally use

Vuyou (Video Email Application): If you are an internet marketer and are generating leads through various marketing strategies like PPC, classifieds etc, you already might know the value of connecting with the prospect. I use this FREE video email application to connect with my leads as soon as they enter in to my sales funnel.

Networked Blogs: I use this application to increase the visibility for my blog. This is a cool application which allows Facebook users to subscribe to my blog and access my updates regularly.
