It seems that the ‘secret’ Nuance speech-to-text Dictation function in iOS 5 can already be taken for a spin – and for those who are curious enough to give it a go, here is how you get around it. Originally appearing in the beta version of iOS 5, this feature allows you to tap a microphone button on your keyboard whenever it is accessible so that all your speech will be translated to text. Confused? Basically, it means this – your iPhone is able to turn whatever you say into a text message, Tweet or search query, as long as there is a keyboard, you will be able to enjoy the Dictation feature.

While you cannot find this feature in the standard iOS 5 beta, there is still a way to get around it in order to experience the technology in a very close manner as what you will get in the final version. Nuance, with several apps on the App Store that relies on its functionality, has proved to be one of the better best implementations on the iPad, and their latest app has gone out of its way to prove just what a wonder this function can be.

No idea on whether the final version of iOS 5 will see Nuance functionality built in, but I guess we will find out when October 4th rolls around, no?
