After disappointing Q2 results from RIM this year, especially in terms of PlayBook sales, RIM announced that it would be discounting the QNX tablet - but with incentive programs, rebates and deals. However, it looks like retailers in Canada have other plans in mind and have started reducing the price tag of the PlayBook instead. According to reports online, the tablet can now be found for prices as low as $249 – depending on where you look.
The 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook has been reported to be available for $249 at certain Walmart outlets (not all of them carry it at that price), while Best Buy and Future Shop are selling it at $299.99, $399.99 and $499.99 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models respectively. While it’s still a long way off from the $99 firesale that HP had with its TouchPad tablets, it’s better than no discount at all. No word on when we’ll start seeing the PlayBook discounted in our stores though. Any of you waiting for the price cut to pick up a PlayBook for yourselves?
